The team:
Scotiabank\xe2\x80\x99s Global Technology & Enterprise Platforms (GTEP) - Strategic Portfolio Office (SPO) manages the development, execution and performance of GTEP\xe2\x80\x99s strategy and roadmap. We ensure a stable, secure and efficient infrastructure and service delivery, that protects the customer experience and supports business growth. We lead efforts around performance, optimization and innovation, best practice portfolio management, GTEP financial management and transparency, and GTEP employee experience excellence.
The Technology Program Office reports into the SPO and is responsible for the delivery of GTEP Strategic Initiatives. This includes Project/Program Management, Project Life-Cycle Planning, KPI Reporting and Benefits Realization. We provide an end-to-end view of all Global Strategic Programs and liaise with key IT Corporate Functions.
The role:
Reporting into the Portfolio Director, Technology Program Office, you will support all aspects of project financial management on budgeting, forecasting, reporting and other financial areas for a project portfolio over $100 million. As the Senior Portfolio Manager - IT Project Financial Strategist, you will be required to create strong partnerships with business and technology stakeholders and interact with various levels of decision makers. You will work closely with key members of each project to ensure accurate and timely forecasts as well as a financial \xe2\x80\x9cRisks, Actions, Issues and Decisions\xe2\x80\x9d (RAID) log to communicate risks/issues impacting project financials (actuals, accruals, forecast, benefits). A key focus will be to build an effective process to continuously improve forecast accuracy throughout a project\xe2\x80\x99s lifecycle and communicate clearly to Senior Management.
The successful candidate will be driven and dynamic with solid technology and financial management acumen. When required to meet project deliverables/timelines, you may be expected to work evenings and/or weekends.
Is this role right for you?

  • You excel at leading & driving project financial support for a project portfolio of over $100 million. This includes working closely with cross-functional Business Finance and Governance teams and creating solid relationships, while leveraging broader knowledge of finance, taxation, accounting policies, operating budgets and general management perspectives.
  • You embrace the responsibility for driving the financial analysis preparation of key strategic project initiatives to help Project Managers, Delivery Managers and VP sponsors to prepare proper Profit & Loss (P&L) and Cash Flow views by interpreting the business needs and translating into the financial statements, including Net Present Value (NPV) and Payback calculations.
  • You can perform and coordinate project-based financial analysis, financial modelling and scenario analysis to support reporting of the operation, capital spend and inform strategic decisions.
  • You don\xe2\x80\x99t shy away from developing timely and accurate executive reporting packages and actionable analysis of GTEP Strategic Initiatives from the financial point of view.
  • You can manage project-related annual incremental ongoing cost planning for operating transits related to ongoing expenses, software amortization and capital depreciation.
  • You can track and validate project benefit realization related to cost savings and expense avoidance on a monthly/quarterly/annual basis; pro-actively identify any risks/issues.
  • You\xe2\x80\x99re fine with creating & providing on-going maintenance of Business Line project cost allocation models in collaboration with key Business Line Finance Teams.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?
  • You possess outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities, which includes experience in writing Executive summaries and presentation decks, via the use of PowerPoint and/or visual dashboard.
  • You can demonstrate a strong financial story telling ability by extracting value from financial metrics and communicate effectively across the Bank.
  • You must have at least 3+ years of hands-on professional working experience in managing financials for project portfolio size of over $100 million.
  • You can demonstrate professional working experience in the people management of direct and/or indirect resources.
  • You have at least 7+ years of professional financial management working experience at a medium- to large-sized company.
  • You are self-driven & can demonstrate a highly energetic and team player attitude.
  • You have advanced proficiency with macros, financial modelling & pivot tables in MS Excel.
  • You have completed a post-secondary education in Business, Finance, Accounting or in a related field. The completion of an MBA or other business-related designation is an asset.
  • Working knowledge on leveraging the use of visual dashboards, like PowerBI, for effective presentations is an asset.
  • Working experience in allocation of cost within multiple business lines and definition of drivers is also an asset.
