Purpose
The incumbent will lead and oversee the development, implementation and coordination of Scotiabank Global Banking and Markets (GBM) business line communications plans globally, ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Accountabilities

  • The incumbent champions and leads a customer-focused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • The primary portfolio of accountability includes (1) Global Business Payments; and (2) Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB). Other stakeholders may be included as the need arises.
  • Manages end-to-end process (communications strategy, development, and delivery) for all communications spanning the portfolio of accountability by:
  • Working closely with internal business partners, senior management and other key stakeholders to develop, write, edit and effectively execute communications aligned with GBM?s Strategy, strategic initiatives and long-term vision.
  • Ensuring alignment of all communications with Global Communications and all-Bank plans and priorities.
  • Coordinating the delivery of communications to target audiences (internal and external).
  • Plans and executes internal and external communications across portfolio of accountability by:
  • Identifying and managing communications needs to support business partners across GBM. Working closely with business partners and other stakeholders; providing advice and direction on communication strategies where required.
  • Leading development and execution of communications objectives for assigned initiatives, and contributing to concepts, ideas and programs as required.
  • Developing and editing communications materials (internal and external), business and regulatory updates and other announcements based on input gathered from business unit heads, support unit heads and other stakeholders.
  • Delivering quarterly communications requirements to support the rollout and engagement of the GBM strategy and its execution.
  • Supporting senior management, and business partners by interpreting complex messages and creating targeted communications for various layers of the organization.
  • Representing GBM communications on various working teams and at periodic cross-functional status meetings.
  • Manages GBM?s internal communications content across portfolio of accountability by:
  • Working closely with GBM business partners to develop high-quality communications that support the strategic direction of the business, build understanding of and engagement with these programs and effectively promote and motivate our senior leadership team and partners.
  • Supporting SVP internal communications and Town Hall events including drafting agenda and presentation materials, coordinating logistics, and moderating events live to ensure seamless execution
  • Partnering with GBM regions and business lines (specifically GBP and CIB to ensure consistent messaging and appropriate dissemination of information to employees.
  • Developing editorial content for the GBM?s Intranet page to promote awareness of key strategic initiatives, product launches or other high-profile news items.
  • Contributes to the effective functioning of the GBM Communication teams by:
  • Building effective working relationships across the team and with various business line and corporate function contacts.
  • Maintaining a high level of full-service industry knowledge and customer service
  • Staying current and implementing communications best practices to ensure consistent and effective message delivery. Actively sharing knowledge and experience to enhance the development of all team members.
  • Facilitating a culture of open and honest communication.
  • Actively participating and contributing to touch bases and team meetings and encouraging the generation of new ideas and approaches.
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team member by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.
  • Understand how the Bank?s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank?s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.


Education / Experience / Other Information=

Education:
  • Minimum undergraduate degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Business Administration, Marketing Communications or a related discipline; a post-graduate certificate in Public Relations is an asset.


Practical Experience:
  • Minimum eight years of relevant corporate communications or related industry communications experience.
  • Extensive financial institution experience, along with understanding of capital markets, is an asset.
  • Demonstrated expertise in planning and implementing strategic communication programs (internal and external) including seeking, creating and championing creative communication solutions.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills (Spanish is an asset).
  • Extensive knowledge developing communications for different channels and media.
  • Excellent project management skills with a high-level of accountability for the quality and timely completion of projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise to provide sound, actionable communications counsel to senior management and support business line strategy and teams.
  • Media relations and social media experience preferred.


Individual:
  • Knowledge of the financial services marketplace with a solid understanding of Scotiabank?s competitive positioning within those markets.
  • Ability to work with senior levels of management.
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of business-related software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Desktop publishing and video experience, an asset.
  • Accurate and detail oriented, with excellent analytic and creative skills.
  • Strong planning, time management and organizational skills; ability to multi-task across many projects simultaneously and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction, but with regular reporting and updates.
  • Discrete ability to recognize and appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information.



Working Conditions
  • Work in a standard hybrid office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
