Job Title Senior Manager, Data Governance


















What is the opportunity? The Senior Manager, Data Governance, will manage RBC Global Asset Management 's (GAM) efforts around data governance and data quality, by providing strategic/operational support & partnering with other GAM and WM leaders. They will enable our business partners to meet their strategic goals by executing on and driving the evolution of the data governance strategy across the RBC GAM platforms. In this role, they will contribute to the development of the governance roadmap, ensuring that all the necessary materials are well-documented and efficiently and appropriately communicated with stakeholders. Reporting to the VP & Head of Data Management, within the RBC GAM Data Management Office (DMO), you will be a member of a diverse Global team within GAM, and will play an important role in upholding and shaping data management practices at the firm. What will you do?

  • Overall ownership of Data Governance requirements scoping and specifications, design, estimation and delivery.
  • Collaborate with business and analytics partners to provide ongoing advice, consulting, direction and support to enable continuous development and implementation of policies, standards and procedures
  • Serve as advisor on data management requirements, identify area of gaps, formulate solution and create practical development roadmaps
  • Champion and direct the use of a data governance platform, including interaction with SMEs, and stakeholders to understand and scope their metadata landscape, and design the platform’s meta-model to onboard the information.
  • Lead discussions and requirements with SME’s, business sponsors, and stakeholders
  • Work with business to define business glossary, and to understand the current business and data landscape
  • Ensure the Data Governance Program aligns with executive vision
  • Analyze current implementation/process/documentation and develop recommendations for data requirements to adoption to the Data Governance platforms.
  • Provide coaching, career development, and/or full accountability for performance management of staff
  • Prepare Executive level presentations as required, review and ensure that presentations/reporting are consistent and aligned with strategy
  • Assist in the compilation of required audit and regulatory documentation, as appropriate
What do you need to succeed? Must Have:
  • 10+ years progressive business experience, either operational or project-related
  • 5+ years’ progressive experience in a data management and/or data governance type function
  • Strong knowledge of and previous experience working with Data Management, Governance and Risk practices at a Financial Institution
  • Knowledge of industry-leading data quality and management concepts, frameworks and practices (e.g. Metadata management, data quality management, data policy, etc.)
  • Excellent corporate communication skills, with experience preparing Executive presentations and presenting to senior management
  • Proven track record in leading initiatives, ad-hoc projects and past performances
  • Strong self-awareness/interpersonal skills and networking capabilities with various internal audiences within the organization
  • Experience coaching, mentoring or managing staff
Nice to Have:
  • Previous experience in the financial sector, particularly investment management or wealth management
  • Experience working with business and/or technology stakeholders in an Enterprise environment
  • Relationship Building; Building Partnerships with Stakeholders
  • Client-focused and process-driven, ability to build loyalty and trust by proactively anticipating needs/resolving issues
