Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Senior Legal Assistant support:
  • Composes/drafts basic internal and external correspondence, reports, memoranda and presentations.
  • Responsible for processing all legal settlements and related payment requisitions with appropriate Bank departments.
  • Coordinates meetings and manages calendar for VP.
  • Creates and maintains online filing systems.
  • Arranges and coordinates domestic and international travel.
  • Oversees corporate expense cards, and preparation of expense reports.
  • Accepting couriers and servings of legal documents for ELG.
  • Arranges for the registration and payment of memberships, licences, seminars.
  • Processes manual invoice payments for external legal counsel services.
  • Assists with departmental software training.
  • Law Clerk support:
  • Problem solving and advising on HR, ER, Benefits, Total Rewards, Benefits, Recruitment and other Business Line-related employee matters.
  • Responsible for monitoring, responding to and completing requests sent to the ELG Admin mailbox within a predetermined timeline, including assigning files to ELG lawyers.
  • Database management and Legal Tracker management.
  • Composing/drafting legal documents under the direction of counsel.
  • Providing paralegal support to ELG in litigation preparation.
  • Working with eDiscovery, and our external counsel on Litigation matters using Relativity.
  • Responsible for submitting all Legal Hold/Preservation requests for ELG and searching/reviewing large and multiple litigation production requests.
  • Creation and distribution of Monthly and Quarterly Reports.
  • Managing ELG precedents in ER Portal and shared network Drive.
  • Tracking and entering in ORM (Operational Risk Management) for all confidential employment law matters, entered/approved quarterly.\\
  • With respect to special projects on a global basis, the Senior Legal Assistant and Law Clerk is responsible for creating and maintaining all files, databases, spread sheets and reports that are required to manage the project for Employment Law Group.
  • Understand how the Bank\'s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank\'s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We\'d love to work with you if you have:
  • A minimum of four years of legal administrative experience at a law firm and/or an in-house legal department
  • Advanced computer skills, proficiency with MS Office and the Internet
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills
  • Law Clerk\'s Diploma would be an asset
  • Strong knowledge of legal concepts, ideally in Employment Law
