Reporting to the Project Controls Manager, the Senior Lead, Project Controls & Planning, is responsible for the implementation and consistent application of Project Management best practices, with an emphasis on planning and scheduling, engineering progress and productivity, change management, project reporting, and risk management. The Senior Lead, Project Controls & Planning will work in close collaboration with the GCMC Project Management, Technical Services, Engineering, Geoscience, Field Program, and Social, Environmental, and Regulatory affairs (SERA) disciplines in order to achieve annual and project investment stage governance objectives.

The Senior Lead, Project Controls & Planning will contribute as an integral member of the GCMC Project Team in the overall planning, monitoring, and reporting of strategic action plans for project development operations.

This position is based out of the Galore Creek Mining Corporation head office in Vancouver.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, leading by example and fostering a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on the common values of health, safety, environment, and communities shared by the asset owners (Teck and Newmont). Provide leadership in the implementation and adherence to GCMC's Health, Safety, Environmental, and Community (HSEC) policy.
  • As a member of a multi-disciplinary project team, collaborate and influence Project activities to ensure adherence to cost, schedule, and progress objectives, find opportunities and mitigate risks, and proactively develop, communicate, and execute strategic action plans to correct deviations and/or realize value.
  • Lead the integration of planning and scheduling activities within GCMC and with external Consultants, including facilitating internal Project planning sessions, and providing guidance and training on project planning and scheduling methods.
  • Perform quality reviews on project schedules prepared by external parties, recommend corrective actions and supervise their implementation.
  • Review external Consultant monthly reports, including progress milestones, performance and forecast, and cost information, and be a vocal participant in monthly consultant meetings to support meaningful, accurate and timely project communications and reporting.
  • Work closely with the broader Galore Creek project team personnel, and Partner Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to support decision-making processes and action plan development for critical opportunity framing, strategic planning and development options focused on addressing the asset's specific risks and value impediments (i.e., access and infrastructure development, waste and water management, and major technical and engineering issues) to improve asset value and build Partner support for continued project development.
  • Lead and support the following key functions for GCMC:
  • Project reporting on cost, schedule, and progress, and including analysis and mitigation of variances, to ensure adherence to plan and the timely and accurate provision of information to the Project senior management team and Partner companies.
  • Perform Scheduling Risk and Contingency Analyses
  • Completion of all stage specific and project execution deliverables, ensuring the appropriate work is completed to GCMC, Partner company, and industry best practices and standards
  • Next stage work plan development, including but not limited to:
  • Schedule
  • Budget
  • Project Execution Plan
  • Other supporting documentation
  • Build respectful working relationships within the Project Team, asset owners, and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:
  • University degree, preferably in Engineering or Business Management.
  • Greater than 10 years of solid, progressive experience in either an Owner's team environment, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company, or an engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) company.
  • Large mining, oil & gas, or infrastructure project (+$1B) experience is preferred.
  • Strong understanding and experience in the areas of planning, progress measurement, study and execution schedule development and review, and project reporting.
  • Strong understanding of project management and controls lifecycles, procedures, systems, and roles and responsibilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of mining organizational structures, typical resource requirements for executing strategic short-term and long-term development and operating plans.
  • High degree of comfort asking probing questions, challenging others assumptions, and unpacking complex technical and business problems, in various settings including with other team members, subject matter experts, and external service providers.
  • Results oriented, with a strong understanding of business drivers and logic.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and work under pressure with minimal guidance to meet tight deadlines.
  • Recognized leader with strong organizational, planning, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills, written and verbal; and
  • Strong interpersonal skills and personal effectiveness; proven ability to influence.
