The South Asian Legal Clinic of British Columbia is a non-profit legal clinic dedicated to providing essential legal services and advocacy for the South Asian community in British Columbia. Our mission is to empower individuals through access to justice and support.
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Senior Lawyer with at least seven years of experience in family law and familiarity with human rights and administrative law. The role offers flexibility of 10-20 hours per week, with some hours required onsite. Compensation is commensurate with experience; candidates should indicate expected salary, benefits, and conditions of employment or contract.
Key Responsibilities
Provide legal services in family law, with opportunities for intersectional practice in areas such as child protection, employment, human rights, tenancy, strata, consumer, contracts, criminal, immigration, wills and estates, personal injury, and mental health.
Coach and supervise legal advocates, articling students, and/or junior lawyers.
Develop and deliver legal subject matter instruction for lawyers, advocates, and/or law students.
Provide unbundled legal services, including development of service menus.
Work with colleagues and clients virtually (email, telephone, videoconferencing).
Maintain a superior understanding of trauma-informed and culturally competent legal practices.
Uphold strong legal ethics, professional responsibility, and record-keeping using Clio case management software.
Qualifications
LLB or JD, with active membership in the Law Society of BC, in good standing.
Minimum of 7 years of active family law practice and some experience in administrative law
Proven oral and written advocacy skills.
Strong commitment to serving the underserved South Asian community.
Exposure to the non-profit sector and pro bono work
Conversant in Punjabi or Hindi.
