We are seeking a

Senior Lawyer Support Representative

to join our team.

The Opportunity



As a Senior Lawyer Support Representative, your primary function is to Represents the Lawyer Services Department as a senior representative to act as the first point of contact for external lawyers and thirdparty vendors working on legal aid contracts and provide training and support to the Lawyer Support team. The Senior Lawyer Support Representative provides end to end support during contract cycle including: new lawyer orientation and onboarding, helpdesk support for inquiries from lawyers regarding LABC Tariffs, contract and billing entitlements, technical support for lawyer portal, assessment of extraordinary billing; assess, coordinate and process authorization requests from lawyers; interpret and provide summary for case review lawyer on extraordinary fee requests in the areas of service in Criminal, CFCSA, Immigration and Family Law. This position completes complex duties to support the team, including invoice validation reports, assess difficult requests and inquiries from lawyers, administration of invoice adjustments and provide mentorship and guidance to Lawyer Support Representatives.

Key accountabilities include, but aren't limited to:



Review, assess and use discretion to approve, or deny extraordinary invoices in CIS Ensure claims are billed in accordance with the policies set out in the LABC Tariffs, Intake Policies and Procedures and the lawyer's contract and that the sequence of services billed fit within the structure of the justice systems court processes; Provide support to lawyers using Lawyer Portal, including updating profile information, invoicing, authorizations, payments, contracts and resources functions; Troubleshoot technical issues in the Lawyer Portal, liaise with the Lawyer Services team and IT department when necessary; Review and approve applications from lawyers to become a legal aid lawyer by reviewing their status with Law Society of BC; Coordinate with other departments to ensure access to systems and resources; set the lawyer up in CIS, and the lawyer portal and send welcome email to lawyers; Support direct supervisor to provide training of employees and casuals; Act as departmental support to answer questions, provide mentorship and advice to Lawyer Support Representatives for complex issues, questions and / or difficult decisions related to their duties; Attend department meetings, present billing problems with solutions for consideration; Draft correspondence; Liaise with referring offices, local agents and other internal departments; and Perform other related duties as required

The Ideal Candidate



You have:

grade 12 education supplemented by courses in Law, Criminology, or related discipline minimum (4) years relevant experience as outlined in related requirements, including at least 3 years as a Lawyer Support Representative experience in supervisory or leadership role and/or supervisory courses OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
