What can I expect to do in this role?

As a Senior I&IT Architect, you will:

  • provide expertise and leadership in information technology (IT) architecture with focus in Technical (including infrastructure and networks) Application architecture, as well as focus in business and information architecture, along with enterprise architecture frameworks, strategies and methodologies
  • contribute to and manage the planning, design, delivery and implementation of architecture solutions related to large scale, complex, multi-year I&IT projects required to meet the critical business requirements of our ministry client(s)
  • help and support with the development of designs and solutions to challenging multi-ministry, enterprise wide business issues
  • contribute to the definition, evaluation and provide leadership in the development of architecture policies, standards, guidelines and best practices affecting multi-ministry/cluster initiatives.
  • determine the risk of business solutions and propose risk mitigating techniques
  • lead and facilitate the development and use of frameworks to identify, measure and propose mitigating tactics for enterprise wide technical debts.


How do I qualify?

Technical Knowledge:

  • you have expertise in I&IT enterprise architecture with superior knowledge primarily in Technical, Application as well as in security, business and information domains
  • you have successfully led the design of multi-stakeholder cross-platform technology solutions
  • you have experience with IT strategies, policies, plans, current and emerging enterprise architecture principles, methodologies, mechanisms and techniques
  • You have experience with identifying risks pertaining to existing business solutions and applications, and providing appropriate mitigation strategies
  • you have practical experience and knowledge of how to identify and measure technical debts
  • you have experience or knowledge of the development of various components pertaining to digital identities and/or digital credentials
  • you have experience analysing portfolios of business solutions and determining the future direction of each portfolio based on the organizational needs and industry directions
  • you have knowledge of technical security best practices to provide practical expertise to meet complex and diverse needs
  • you have knowledge of current industry standards to provide advice, including systems analysis, performance & capacity management, development, testing and implementation methods, Change Management tools and techniques
  • you have a deep understanding of governance processes and best practices in governing architecture of technology projects
  • you have a strong understanding of risk management and how enterprise architecture processes and best practices can be used to manage risk
  • you have the ability to apply industry best practices and standards in architecture, software and systems engineering, design and development tools and techniques, and software lifecycle methodologies
  • you have knowledge of Project Management and Service Management practices
  • you have knowledge of Application Portfolio Management frameworks


Leadership Skills

  • you have led cross functional, and multi-organizational projects
  • you have led project status meetings and other organizational activities related to architecture priorities
  • you can provide guidance and training to project staff engaged in architecture related project activities
  • you can provide technical guidance to support staff; schedule activities and explain/document procedures related to the solution infrastructure
  • you can establish effective working relationships, obtain buy-in for systems development, promote systems to senior management and stakeholders


Research and Analytical Skills

  • you can develop architectural solutions to meet complex, multi-year plans, spanning multiple internal/external stakeholders and broadly defined business objectives
  • you can resolve significant integration and technical issues to address multiple systems/applications linkages, interdependencies and impacts where requirements are not initially clear
  • you can research and recommend innovative systems architecture alternatives and integration strategies
  • you have developed and compiled your researches and recommendations into reports for senior executives
  • you can plan and coordinate all phases of complex multi ministry/cluster architecture for systems supporting both internal/external clients and stakeholders
  • you can develop appropriate performance measures that are adaptive and responsive to address the continuous introduction of new and emerging technologies, use of unfamiliar or unproven technology, broadly defined or undefined business and systems requirements


Communication Skills

  • you have developed tailored to business audiences and delivered presentation to senior executives
  • you can present IT strategies and solutions to management
  • you can advise regarding approaches to contentious systems architecture issues
  • you can provide architecture and processes training to clients and projects


Consultation, Collaboration and Facilitation Skills

  • you can consult with multiple stakeholders and clients to advise on technical issues
  • you can facilitate discussions among stakeholders with different interests
  • you can encourage participation in the systems design process
  • you can negotiate service agreements with client management and other IT groups to minimize delivery issues and exceed service expectations
  • you can provide advice and recommendations regarding most effective architecture strategies
  • you can facilitate both performance and capacity management discussions with support teams as well as clients
