What can I expect to do in this role?

In this job you will:

  • Identify architecture and security requirements and lead development of architecture solutions
  • Provide cyber security guidance to the architecture, design, implementation and continuous evolution of cost effective multi-ministry/large scale/enterprise reusable IT assets and services available to I&IT projects
  • Provide input into the cluster\'s technology roadmap to help shape the technology that will be used to meet the needs of our business through their digital strategies
  • Provide senior level strategic and authoritative advice to support architecture, policy, procedures and program development.
  • Lead and participate in the organization\'s innovation program and strategic planning
  • Conduct proof of concepts and research and development activities to ensure new technologies meet client requirements and participate in feasibility studies and reviews of new IT systems and technologies
  • Provide the analysis, development, evaluation and estimation of new directions and options for architecture
  • Lead, develop and implement architecture policies, I&IT guidance, standards and products
  • Provide consultative guidance and technical advice and participate in governance established to ensure IT projects confirm to OPS directives, policies, and standards
  • Develop and present architecture proposals and business cases for I&IT projects
  • Develop and maintain relationships with I&IT managers, OPS enterprise architects and project stakeholders
  • Provide leadership, guidance and training to project teams and consultants


How do I qualify?

Technical Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of cloud technologies, enterprise applications, and computer languages specific to Microsoft Azure
  • Knowledge of public cloud architectures, using IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), PaaS (Platform as a Service), SaaS (Software as a Service)
  • Knowledge of concepts of security in order to provide practical expertise and guidance
  • Knowledge of relevant state of the art multi-platform I&IT technology; I&IT technology research and development, implementation, security, and emerging technologies
  • Knowledge of business process modelling, data modelling, and/or information management, business analysis, design and process reengineering


Strategic Planning

  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices to provide strategic advice and direction
  • Ability to define migration strategies to for migrating solutions from on-premise infrastructure to the public cloud
  • Ability to create and provide input into strategic and operational plans, decisions and roadmaps
  • Ability to research and recommend innovative solution alternatives and strategies
  • Develop options, reports and strategic recommendations to support senior level decision-making


Analytical and Problem Solving Skills

  • Ability to apply leading industry best practices and standards in architecture, software and systems engineering, design and development tools and techniques, and software lifecycle methodologies
  • Ability to develop architectural solutions to meet complex, multi-year plans, spanning multiple internal/external stakeholders and broadly defined business objectives
  • Ability to resolve significant integration and technical issues
  • Ability to coordinate all phases of complex multi-ministry/cluster architecture for systems supporting both internal/external clients and stakeholders


Communication & Interpersonal Skills

  • Oral communication skills to present IT strategies and solutions to senior management and provide advice
  • Ability to advise regarding approaches to contentious systems architecture issues
  • Ability to lead planning sessions and project status meetings
  • Ability to consult with multiple stakeholders and clients to advise on technical issues
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and obtain buy-in for systems development
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills
