Torq Transloading is seeking a Senior Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisor to support the startup and early operations of our new transloading facility in Taylor, BC. This is a pivotal role focused on developing and implementing site-specific HSE programs, fostering a strong safety culture, and ensuring operational excellence from day one.
Note for Calgary-based candidates: This position will require a significant amount of time on site in Taylor, BC during the initial phase, with the opportunity to evolve into a corporate HSE role supporting Torq Energy and our broader transloading operations.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development and implementation of HSE programs for the Taylor facility.
Establish and maintain HSE governance, monitor program effectiveness, and drive continuous improvement.
Set strategic direction for site HSE initiatives and ensure successful execution.
Assess and enhance existing HSE procedures and policies.
Design and deliver HSE training programs for new facility staff and support ongoing training efforts.
Provide coaching, mentorship, and leadership across all levels of the organization.
Support stakeholder engagement and represent HSE interests in site interactions.
Conduct safety audits and lead incident investigations.
Analyze incident data to identify trends and recommend corrective actions.
Provide technical HSE support to management and project teams.
Deliver in-house safety training and perform risk assessments.
Advise on safety planning and procedures for new projects and operational phases.
Support HSE practices during commissioning and early operational stages.
Observe early site operations and recommend improvements to enhance HSE outcomes.
Must be willing to work on-site or travel to the facility in Taylor, BC to support commissioning and startup activities.
Qualifications
Professional certification or qualifications in Health, Safety & Environment.
Minimum 10 years of HSE experience, preferably in trucking, rail, or transloading environments.
Strong knowledge of HSE Management Systems, Incident Command System, auditing techniques, and industrial hygiene.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to lead change and influence safety culture.
Demonstrated experience in HSE governance and continuous improvement.
Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring capabilities.
