We are looking for a Senior Foreperson - Night Shift Trades to join our team! The incumbent is responsible for coordinating, and supervising various inspection, maintenance, and construction employees within the Night Shift Trades section of the Plant Maintenance Department.What You Will Do?

  • Provide senior level guidance and oversight of frontline supervisory staff engaged in the section's maintenance and rehabilitation and construction activities as well as coordinate work activities within scheduled maintenance windows and closures.
  • Developing and implementing schedules that allow for work to be carried out safely and in accordance with standard practice; adjusting work schedules to reflect changing priorities and/or circumstances, such as inclement weather;
  • Providing technical direction and guidance to staff in project work activities, technical consultation/direction, on-site solutions, performance tracking, time accounting and work approval;
  • Performing a variety of duties that ensure the inspection, maintenance, rehabilitation, construction and cleaning of assets is completed in accordance with published schedules and within applicable operating requirements
  • Coordinating the efficient use of workforce and job rotation to minimize expenditure and service disruptions;
  • Making the appropriate arrangements for the availability of materials, equipment and tools in order to maximize operational efficiency;
  • Ensuring employees are properly trained on workplace safety, procedures, equipment operation and maintenance;
  • Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?
  • Completion of a community college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e. in Civil Engineering, Architectural Technology, etc.) combined with extensive directly related experience working in a progressively responsible supervisory/management capacity; OR through a Certificate of Qualification in a skilled construction trade combined with several years of related work experience in medium to heavy civil construction projects in an urban environment.
  • Directly related experience working on medium to heavy civil construction projects in an urban environment, including progressively responsible experience in a supervisory / management capacity
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to plan, coordinate and direct activities of front line supervisory staff plus a unionized workforce of semi-skilled and skilled employees to accomplish objectives and meet deadlines under challenging conditions
  • A Certificate of Qualification in a skilled construction trade will be a definite asset
  • Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance and management procedures and techniques applicable to the repair, maintenance, replacement and construction of building facilities
  • Thorough knowledge of the construction and structural components related to commercial buildings, maintenance buildings and subway stations and the mechanical equipment that forms the infrastructure of TTC buildings and facilities;
  • Working knowledge of personal computer and computer applications and systems related to the work (e.g. Microsoft Office, MAXIMO, Building Reports, etc.), combined with good knowledge of business administration and human relations concepts/practices;
  • Must have a valid non-probationary Class G driving license and use of own vehicle is necessary for site inspections;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable codes and regulations such as the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Ministry of Environment regulations, Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, Employment Standards Act Transportation of Dangerous Goods, etc.
  • Requires sound judgement and well-developed problem solving, organizational, interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills including technical report writing;
  • Familiarity with budgetary principles and concepts and the ability to prepare various reports, analyses and recommendations regarding maintenance operations;
  • Must attend and successfully complete the training program for Subway/SRT Rule Book certification, and any other in-house or external courses as directed by management (including recertification as appropriate) encompassing effective supervision, safety, environmental and technical courses related to the work
  • Must have or must rapidly acquire sound knowledge of the policies and procedures applicable to the Toronto Transit Commission and the Plant Maintenance Department
  • Must become familiar with relevant sections of ATU Local 113 collective agreement, seniority regulations, etc.
