Information, Data and Analytics Services (IDAS) ensures that economists and researchers in the monetary policy and financial system departments at the Bank of Canada have easy access to accurate, coherent, relevant, timely and interpretable data, as well as the information technology tools required to effectively exploit the data.
What you will do

As a member of the Financial Institutions Statistics (FIS) team within IDAS, you will provide analytic and subject-matter expertise to support the collection of high-quality chartered bank data to meet the Bank of Canada\xe2\x80\x99s requirements, as well as international reporting commitments. Combining sound judgment with experience and knowledge of both financial data and technical systems, you will resolve issues and create innovative solutions to novel data problems and requests. You will develop and maintain strong subject-matter expertise in chartered bank financial data and reporting standards and guidelines, as well as an understanding of the uses of these data across the Bank. You will lead projects and participate in committees where an understanding of and ability to effectively communicate the use of data are critical to success. You will manage relationships in an effective manner, liaising with both internal and external clients and partners, sharing and contributing your expertise to maintain the high quality of the data services and products provided.
Specifically, you will:

  • lead the development work and contribute to the ongoing maintenance of chartered bank data collection, ensuring user requirements and reporting standards/deadlines are met
  • lead and implement changes to compiling, reporting and dissemination programs to meet the evolving needs of internal and external data users
  • use strong technical skills and knowledge to coordinate and respond to complex data requests
  • represent FIS and the Bank of Canada on subject-matter working groups with other internal departments, partner and/or stakeholder agencies and international organizations
  • build and uphold effective, collaborative relationships with internal clients and external partners using strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • maintain strong, in-depth understanding of financial data, relevant developments in the financial industry and reporting standards and how it is used by internal and external users as well as keep abreast of developments in the field of data analytics

What you need to succeed

You have in-depth knowledge of chartered bank financial data and data quality assurance methods. You are experienced with the compilation and dissemination of data as well as creating and modifying these processes. You have the ability to work in at least one statistical/analytic software (e.g., Python, R) and advanced skills with standard office tools such as Microsoft Office suite.
You are a change contributor and optimistic when dealing with changes and conflicts. You are a team player who contributes to discussions with a willingness to share ideas, knowledge and feedback. You have the ability to exchange information and ideas with others and to clarify complex information, using clear and compelling written and oral communication skills. You advance the quality of decision making by being able to solicit cooperation from colleagues and negotiate effectively with business partners.
Nice-to-have
  • fully functional in both official languages
  • knowledge of the Bank\xe2\x80\x99s processes for regulatory data collection from chartered banks
  • experience with relevant software packages (SAS, Stata, MATLAB, Python, etc.)
  • experience working in a regulatory reporting environment or data reporting area of a major bank
  • in-depth knowledge of Canadian financial market structures and financial market instruments
  • relevant master\xe2\x80\x99s degree (economics, finance, etc.)

Your education and experience

bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in economics, commerce, finance, accounting, computer science, mathematics or statistics
a minimum of four years of related work experience (i.e., analyzing financial data and developing recommendations or reports based on this analysis), with increasing levels of responsibility or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Hybrid Work Model
#LI-Hybrid The Bank is conducting a trial of a hybrid working model which provides employees with the flexibility to telework for significant portions of each month. During the trial, employees will be expected to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person and to build connections with colleagues. For the majority of employees, it is expected that onsite time will range from 5 to 10 days per month, depending on your role. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $83,500 to $98,235 (job grade 16)
  • Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (5 to 7% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (10% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
