We are currently looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to join our Power Generation Fuels Finance team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Manager, Fuels Accounting & Reporting, you will be responsible for the accounting and administration of NS Power\xe2\x80\x99s fuels transactions, the associated inventory and trading software(s) and the processing of fuel payments to vendors. You will maintain a positive relationship with our operations team and external vendors to ensure fuel transactions are captured and reported correctly. As Senior Financial Analyst you will:

  • Report renewable energy, natural gas and energy transactions.
  • Derivative report for fuel hedging.
  • Support the team in fuels reporting including supervising and training team members.
  • Support external reporting requirements with NS Power, including coordinating with internal and external auditors.
  • Work within the Fuels-Finance group as a bridge between the Operations and Finance to ensure transactions are properly reported for inclusion within financial processes.
  • Play a key role in the preparation of regulatory applications to the Utility and Review Board.
  • Provide supporting detail on Fuel and Purchased Power Costs including the FAM.
  • Support the month-end and quarter-end accounting close processes.
  • Respond to information requests.
  • Be responsible for communicating key financial information to various levels of the organization, including senior management.
What skills will make you successful? You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and where possible possess the skills and experience listed below:
  • Hold a degree in Business or Commerce and have 4-5 years of experience in a related role.
  • Ideally you will possess a CPA designation. A related combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • You are a proven team player with the ability to interact and work with people from a variety of backgrounds and at different levels within the organization.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in financial analysis are required.
  • You must possess strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, be detail orientated and able to work in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment.
  • You have the willingness to challenge the status quo and are dedicated to identifying continuous improvement opportunities and new efficiencies.
  • The successful candidate is proficient in the MS Office Suite of software and has experience with financial reporting systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort in creating and analyzing detailed spreadsheets is required.
  • Knowledge of Oracle would be an asset.
