The Asset Strategy & Analytics team has an exciting opportunity for two (2) Senior Engineers to lead the strategic asset planning activities for various transmission electrical assets. Reporting to the Supervising Engineer, they will be accountable for engaging with key stakeholders and leading all asset-related decision-making over the lifecycle of various asset classes, including transmission lines, telecommunication, substation apparatus, isolated generation, high voltage direct current (HVDC) equipment, and isolated generation. The ideal candidate will be someone with a strong asset management foundation, electrical utility experience, and excellent communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop broad-level asset management strategies and best practices for multiple transmission electrical asset classes (e.g. overarching asset health model frameworks for all transmission equipment and lines).
  • Lead team members in the creation of asset lifecycle strategies and renewal plans for specific transmission assets (such as individual substation transformers or telecommunication towers) by analyzing risk and various operational indices (including asset condition, system criticality, reliability, operational constraints, and financial data).
  • Create, review, and approve technical scopes and business justification documentation for capital maintenance projects, which may include asset replacement/refurbishment and new technology implementation.
  • Identify and create new capital maintenance, and operations and maintenance programs to mitigate emerging and increasing risks to the transmission electrical system due to external factors, including but not limited to, unpredictable weather patterns and wildfire.
  • Develop and implement prioritization frameworks for asset-related decision-making using a risk- or value-based approach.
  • Support the overall regulatory application process (Transmission General Tariff Application) which includes reviewing and developing business cases, responding to information requests, and witness preparation.
  • Facilitate working sessions with other technical and non-technical departments to ensure alignment between teams and the development of asset strategies and processes.
  • Coach, mentor, and supervise engineers and engineers-in-training.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical or Civil.
  • Professional Engineer designation with APEGA.
  • Minimum of 9 years of work experience, preferably in an electrical utility environment.
  • Knowledge of electrical utility systems including the various components/assets.
  • A demonstrated understanding of good asset management principles.
  • Experience with asset management systems such as IBM Maximo.
  • Excellent business writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong leadership skills, and capable of managing a diverse group of stakeholders (technical and non-technical) and leading the team towards a consensus/resolution on complex decisions, and strategy and process development and improvements.
  • Knowledge of ISO 55000 is an asset.
  • Experience with Power BI, DAX, SQL, python, etc. is an asset.
