Our publishing initiative always considers stories and information in an educational context. All of our publications are developed by a team of Northern educators and language experts. These titles incorporate concepts that students are familiar with--counting, animals, family, traditional stories, and so on--within a Northern context.
We are seeking a
Senior Editor
to manage in-house editorial workflow and work collaboratively with editorial staff from our sister companies, Inhabit Media, Inhabit Education, and Taqqut Productions.
The successful candidate is required to be in the office Monday to Friday.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Oversee projects throughout development and production, including assigning writers, editors, translators, educational and Northern consultants.
Develop and complete various levels of editing (substantive, line, copy, and proofread depending on the project) of projects based on approved curriculum and with the assistance of experts in education and specialized subject areas, including public health, social services, environmental science, and Northern affairs and culture.
Managing workflow between writers, editors, reviewers, designers, and distributors.
Copy edit, and proofread student and teacher resources as needed.
Create and manage timelines to ensure contract deadlines and terms are satisfied.
Manage editorial workflow to ensure deadlines are met.
Attend/lead meetings as necessary to ensure editorial, design, and production personnel are updated on project statuses.
Ensure printer proofs are editorially reviewed and approved in a timely manner.
Assist with writing of book projects when necessary.
Update owners on project status as necessary.
Complete administrative duties as required.
Required Skills and Experience:
A minimum of three years of experience working in an editorial role, ideally in a book publishing environment.
Strong writing and editing skills.
Exceptional organizational skills.
Exceptional communication skills.
Strong familiarity with Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines.
Experience working with Northern, remote, and/or marginalized communities is an asset.
Completion of a publishing certificate program is an asset.
