This role reports directly to Canadian Underwriter's Editorial Director and is for an existing vacancy.
About the Role
We're looking for a
multi-platform storyteller
who thrives in a fast-paced B2B media environment and loves meeting the people behind the stories. You'll report, write, edit, present, and help shape coverage that matters to Canada's insurance community.
The ideal candidate is as comfortable writing a feature as they are hosting a webinar, producing a digital newsletter, guiding a graphic artist to produce an infographic, or stepping in front of a camera. You enjoy building relationships, networking with industry leaders, and establishing trusted sources.
This Toronto-based role includes travel for interviews, industry events, and trade shows.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation & Reporting
Report on breaking news, industry trends, and current events affecting P&C insurance professionals.
Conduct in-person and virtual interviews; attend conferences and trade shows.
Produce high-quality editorial content across multiple formats: articles, scripts, podcasts, video segments, presentations, and more.
Host or co-host digital events such as LinkedIn Live sessions and webinars.
Editing & Production
Refine staff and contributor content through copy edits and substantive edits.
Assemble newsletters for LinkedIn, proprietary platforms, and other platforms.
Collaborate with designers, video teams, and other internal partners to elevate visual and multimedia storytelling.
Audience & Industry Engagement
Build strong networks with industry sources and maintain a visible presence at sector events.
Represent CanadianUnderwriter.ca confidently at conferences, panels, and live events.
Act as a brand ambassador, actively engaging with the insurance community.
Teamwork & Leadership
Work collaboratively within a hands-on editorial team.
Contribute creative ideas to strengthen our storytelling, coverage, and editorial products.
Required Qualifications
Journalism degree
or equivalent training.
3-5 years of experience in B2B publishing
, preferably with coverage for technical or professional audiences. Experience covering the insurance industry is an asset.
Superior digital storytelling skills, including social media fluency and experience producing email newsletters.
Experience hosting live digital events (LinkedIn Live, webinars), speaking in front of audiences, and presenting on camera.
Strong research skills, including the ability to conduct, interpret, and apply industry research.
Experience writing scripts or outlines for video; video production experience is an asset.
Proficiency with content management systems, Microsoft Office, video conferencing tools (Teams, Go-To Webinar), transcription apps (e.g., Otter.ai), and AI tools including ChatGPT. (We only use AI to support the work of journalists. We do not publish AI-generated content.)
Excellent organizational abilities with a track record of managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
A curious, creative, self-starting mindset, with a strong desire to engage with the industry and build relationships.
