Sr. Director, Projects & Planning - National Operations

Overview

Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, National Operations, the incumbent provides direction and guidance to drive efficiencies and operational effectiveness in National Operations and store systems projects. This position will continue to play a significant role to operationalize the key strategies for the Business Unit as well as provide operational support on key projects. The Sr. Director, Projects and Planning will work with business partners to advise on the store experience in new project design and assist in developing, delivering and implementing retail initiatives and operational handoffs for support tools.

Accountabilities include but are not limited to the below:

  • Work with cross-functional business partners across multiple projects to represent the National Operations team, stores employee and customer experience.
  • Act as the store expert, serving as a thought leader for projects, driving change across the organization, building strong relationships with cross functional departments.
  • Support and liaise with departments, ensuring that all initiatives and pilots are focused on supporting improved business processes for stores, customer experience and enhance productivity in stores.
  • Support cross functional partners to drive processes, align on priorities and deliver a comprehensive plan including milestones/timing of work to be done.
  • Work cross functionally to set and monitor key productivity indicator improvements, change management and communication programs per project for the stores.
  • Represent National operations in cross functional meetings and ensure decisions support overall operating model and strategy.
  • Develop reports, presentations and content for key meetings, developing appropriate content & messaging for the stakeholder groups
  • Provide regular project communication and status reporting
  • Help validate and produce appropriate baseline project plans and templates
  • Work with appropriate parties to plan project resource requirements
  • Travel to stores as needed to check on project process and traction.
  • End-to-end project management focused on current state process and data analysis, identifying opportunities, creating value proposition, and executing against approved opportunities
  • Lead strategic project planning, milestone tracking, risk management, stakeholder management, facilitation of workshops, design and implementation of new processes and project training, change management and hand over activities
  • Scenario analysis, opportunity prioritization and roadmap execution
  • Engage and work alongside key business stakeholders to gain input and buy-in to the strategic initiatives and to influence and execute plans
  • Develop internal relationships with business units to ensure collaboration.
  • Creation of dashboards and presentations circulated to senior level executives.

  • Project Management tools and software experience
  • Expert in the use of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentations skills
  • Ability to summarize complex data into key insights
  • Demonstrated experience presenting and interfacing with C-Level Executives
  • Ability to analyze large data sets to bring forward key takeaways into an easy to read framework
Role Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years previous work experience required; retail, merchandising, management consulting, or consumer goods experience strongly preferred
  • Post-secondary undergraduate (finance, economics, commerce) and/or graduate education preferred
  • Lean/Six Sigma or equivalent process improvement certification is an asset
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience related to process optimization, procurement or consulting with a minimum of three years of managerial experience
  • Capable of facilitating (design sessions, conflict resolutions, brainstorming, etc.)
  • Solid expertise in the development and roll-out of transformation programs
  • Strong stakeholder management experience with the ability to lead and work in cross functional teams
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in consulting, implementation or development projects.
  • Knowledge of Loblaw systems, data sources, and metrics is an asset
  • Comfortable moving from 'Big Picture' strategic thinking to detailed execution seamlessly
  • Independent problem solving and ability to think critically
  • Understanding of service requirements in grocery retail business
  • Ability to influence change
