We also use our voice to speak up on issues that impact our communities, such as implementing a living wage and standing against discrimination.A Day in The LifeAs the Senior Director of Communication, you will be leading the charge for fairness, overseeing all Communications and Campaigns for UFCW 1518 and playing a key role in advancing our mission and expanding our reach. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, Member Engagement & Growth, you will spearhead scalable operations, ensuring swift and impactful communication with both our members and stakeholders. Your responsibilities will include:Key Responsibilities

  • Providing strategic leadership and support for communications and campaign initiatives, working closely with the Managing Director of Member Engagement & Growth.
  • Leading the communications department while setting and maintaining best practices.
  • Overseeing and managing UFCW 1518\xe2\x80\x99s content strategy (e,g. social media calendar, website posts)
  • Performing quality control oversite for all content produced by the department, in particular mass email and press communications, as well as social media
  • Sharing the vision of leadership with the team and ensuring that we have a consistent messaging of our strategy throughout the organization.
  • Cultivating and managing media and stakeholder relationships.
  • Working closely with the Organizing department to develop and execute joint digital lead generation strategies
  • Working closely with the Representation department to support member engagement during contract negotiations or within disengaged units
  • Leading digital advertisement and online communication initiatives that utilize modern tools to expand our reach and engage both union members and the public.
  • Developing operational plans and managing budgets for communications and campaign-related activities.
  • Ensuring consistent alignment with organizational strategy across all messaging. Guiding and supporting Union Representatives and Organizers to amplify our message effectively.
  • Collaborating with the Managing Director of Member Engagement & Growth-, overseeing recruitment, hiring, and succession planning within the team
  • Resolving people-related issues within the team, managing performance and fostering a culture of growth and development.
Qualifications and other Requirements:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field is required, an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in a senior communication role, preferably within a labour or progressive organization
  • A proven track record of successful campaign management and strong writing skills.
  • Strong project management and digital skills (experience using Asana, WordPress, social media scheduling platforms, preferred)
  • Extensive successful campaign, writing and editing experience across print and online communications and campaigns with a portfolio.
  • Innovative and creative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans.
  • You are a senior-level communications and campaign professional with extensive experience and can instinctively develop and manage the key components of effective communication plans and delivery.
  • Effective team building and management skills will be critical in this role.
  • Experience in building, mentoring, and coaching communications specialists. Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including negotiation and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Political acumen and enhanced proficiency in utilizing modern communication tools and technology platforms to mobilize union members and the public
  • Progressive values, with a commitment to social, racial, gender and economic justice
  • Valid Class 5 Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License.
