What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Be Doing

Reporting to the VP, Retail and Business Banking Business Controls, the Senior Director, Governance and Controls is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to a team of risk professionals. The Senior Director provides business compliance and control advisory services to senior management and business groups, and stewardship of and governance over operational risk and controls. Working in close collaboration with senior leaders across the SBU and infrastructure groups, leads and directs the management of control design, control programs/frameworks, control testing, deficiency management, operational risk policies/procedures, & initiatives across their line of business portfolio. This role reviews both the internal and external landscapes, coupled with trends and issues in the businesses to identify items that will minimize risk of financial and operational loss.

How you\xe2\x80\x99ll succeed

  • Strategic Leadership \xe2\x80\x93 Leading and/or sponsoring regulatory projects and governance initiatives to drive consistent and value-added outcomes across all the business lines, and ensure alignment with the business priorities and strategy. This includes, but is not limited to, project management and execution of regulatory/governance initiatives. Overseeing the design, review, and approval of all changes to key controls, non-key and KAR duty control testing programs; Sponsoring implementation of remediation plans for targeted control gaps or special projects; leading the development of effective governance policies and procedures
  • Governance \xe2\x80\x93 Ensuring effective governance processes and controls are in place and that policies are adhered to and that the risk management and control framework is rigorous and consistent with CIBC\xe2\x80\x99s risk appetite. This includes keeping abreast of and interpreting Corporate-wide policies, industry and legislative requirements/ best practices, and monitoring regulatory changes in order to develop, manage, and execute enhancements to operational risk and business continuity programs. Proactively alerting to the emergence of operational risk issues in Canadian Banking day-to-day activities and make informed decisions to address potential non-conformity with key governance policies/procedures, and/or acceptable risk limits.
  • Relationship Building \xe2\x80\x93 Providing leadership and effective management to influence employee engagement and commitment to the organization, to the team, and to their job by cultivating and managing a high performing team to deliver on and support the mandate. Setting appropriate context when assigning work to ensure that individuals\xe2\x80\x99 roles support the achievement of the business unit\xe2\x80\x99s priorities and CIBC\xe2\x80\x99s overall goals. Managing performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, identifying and removing obstacles to performance and by explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities;
