The position is responsible for ensuring that an effective and well documented internal control structure is in place for Finance in accordance with current governance, risk and compliance requirements. The role works with all related infrastructure groups to ensure that Finance\xe2\x80\x99s risk management and control framework is rigorous and supports the division while being consistent with CIBC\xe2\x80\x99s policies and procedures. The role is also responsible for the test of controls, deficiency management, and assertion process for Finance group.At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role.   • Governance - Provide guidance on the documentation and design of an effective internal control structure in accordance with current governance, risk and compliance requirements (including FPC, RCM and OPC streams). Identify and escalate issues/areas of concern in a timely manner. Review company-wide policies from a Finance perspective and provide comments to respective policy owners. Oversee and manage Finance Governance and Control Sharepoint site and ensure compliance with the Records Management policy.
  • Operational risk management - Support Finance groups through operational risk assessment activities, including development and monitoring of KRIs, internal and external event reviews, and annual update of Operation Risk Profile (\xe2\x80\x9cORP\xe2\x80\x9d) in accordance with CIBC\xe2\x80\x99s policies and related standards and procedures. Provide guidance and best practices to Finance groups for preparation of process documentation (e.g., business process narratives and maps). Facilitate Finance in the identification of risks and development of mitigation strategies. Act as a compliance and control liaison to analyze and report internal operational loss events and review external operational risk incidents for likelihood/impact at CIBC
  • Control activities \xe2\x80\x93 Provide leadership to test the design and operating effectiveness of FPC, RCM and OPC internal controls within Finance. Develop annual internal control test plan for Finance. Identify, track and monitor deficiencies to ensure they are resolved in a timely and effective manner.
  • People Leadership - Provide leadership and effective management of business unit staff to influence employee commitment to the organization, to the team, and to their job by setting appropriate context when assigning work to ensure that individuals\xe2\x80\x99 roles support the achievement of the business unit\xe2\x80\x99s priorities and CIBC\xe2\x80\x99s overall goals, building team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities such as job shadowing, special projects, and training and managing performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, identifying and removing obstacles to performance and by explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities.
Who You Are
  • You can demonstrate 8+ years of experience in audit, risk and/or controls with a strong understanding of Finance. In addition, you have demonstrated leadership experience, a strategic mindset, and the ability to negotiate and influence decision making of senior stakeholders. Experience in large financial institutions is an asset.
