Role Overview

Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, Healthcare Businesses, the incumbent is responsible for winning new contracts and transferring existing Specialty contracts to Shoppers Drug Mart. This position has significant responsibility for revenue generation. The Senior Director, Business Development (BD) will achieve these goals by growing and enhancing current relationships with pharmaceutical partners, industry professionals and other potential business partners. The incumbent will develop and drive a strategic growth plan to increase the specialty business across Shoppers Drug Mart, taking ownership of current and new pipeline projects and leading them to completion.

What you will do:

  • Foster the Enterprise Vision, Mission and Values
  • As an active member of the SHN Leadership team, play a key role in the development of business strategy and implementation of the Strategic Vision for SHN
  • Build & implement strategic growth plan for Specialty business across Shoppers Drug Mart to drive competitiveness and market leadership
  • Develop market analyses, account plans, sales strategies and marketing tools that use the Shoppers Drug Mart Network and other enterprise assets
  • Leverage existing network to develop and build strategic relationships/partnerships with key pharmaceutical clients, to acquire established specialty programs and transition business to Shoppers Drug Mart
  • Maintain high levels of prospecting activity and quickly establish credibility and positive relationships with prospective clients
  • Negotiate large Specialty contracts with key partners
  • Develop strategies to ensure sustainment of current specialty business, focusing on organic growth, securing existing contract renewals and RFPs, and exploring new product sales opportunities with existing customer base
  • Take a Customer Centric approach to delivering business results and provide outstanding client services, including timely execution of promised deliverables
  • Lead contracting and governance requirements with Pharma clients, consistent with the values of the Company and the evolving Canadian regulatory environment
  • Initiate and develop long-term consultative relationships with industry groups and key collaborators
  • Lead and drive the sales process from signed contract to implementation and work with cross-functional teams internally and externally towards successful and timely launch
  • Deliver effective communications, both verbal and written across different forums and amongst various audiences (e.g. formal presentations, one-on-one meetings)
  • Lead the Business Development team
  • Establish and manage to short and long term departmental objectives, policies, operating procedures, annual budgets and financial forecasts
  • Foster high colleague engagement and a ground-up culture of accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement
What you will need:
  • Deep pharmaceutical & specialty expertise in Canada
  • Deep experience handling high-profile relationships
  • Track record of consistently achieving and surpassing sales targets
  • Understanding of B2B sales and experience with strategic account management
  • Experience working on large and sophisticated initiatives, developing innovative growth strategies and making timely and effective decisions in a constantly evolving market
  • Strong business sense - outstanding knowledge of business administration, relationship and account management principles and practices, general business and P&L management experience
  • Strong negotiation, influencing and problem-solving skills
  • Leadership presence, with confidence to engage and influence executive leadership
  • Strong team leadership and ability to build and maintain effective cross-functional relationships
  • Excellent communication across all levels of respective teams and across the enterprise
  • Ability to coach and mentor others
  • Self-motivated and resilient, with a positive demeanour and high energy level
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry - drug handling process, systems & services, various provincial reimbursement programs and formulary processes
  • Knowledge of retail pharmacy an asset
  • Bilingualism (English, French) would be an asset
  • Flexibility to travel (approximately 20%)
