Our technology team, BDO Lixar, brings 20+ years of experience providing end-to-end technology and modern workplace solutions in data & AI, cloud & cyber, and business & customer-facing applications. Our team of 500 technology professionals is expanding our data-driven services from coast-to-coast and beyond, to help our clients adapt, adopt, and grow.

We are looking for a Senior Data Governance Consultant to join the Data Advisory team at BDO Canada.

As part of this role, you will develop and execute on data management, data governance, and data advisory engagements. This can include data governance initiatives, as well as data and/or analytics strategies, data maturity, data management, and data literacy initiatives. You will work closely with client executives, departmental heads and leaders, and SMEs.

Responsibilities will include:

• Engage and lead data advisory engagements, which include data strategies, analytics strategies, data governance, data maturity, and data literacy initiatives
• Engage directly with our clients (business leaders, stakeholders, data stewards and IT representatives) to quickly gain an understanding of their data and digital landscape, requirements, and overall strategic direction of the business.
• Help our clients establish Data Management and Data Governance programs while driving data ownership into our clients\xe2\x80\x99 businesses.
• Conduct current state assessments, gap analyses and data maturity assessments and present findings to technical and business audiences in a logical, easy-to-understand manner.
• Facilitate workshops with business stakeholders to gain a clear understanding of their business goals and strategy, in order to ensure alignment of the overall data strategy, deliverables and work product.
• Conduct advanced business analysis to gain a clear understanding of our clients\xe2\x80\x99 current state of technology and data capabilities, business functions, reporting needs, in-flight projects, pain points, etc.
• Collaborate with data specialists across BDO and advise on solutions that pertain to Data Governance programs, such as Data Catalogue, Data Quality, Business Glossary, data tools/software, Data Lineage, Metadata management, etc.

Your experience and education

• 3+ years of experience in and understanding of concepts and frameworks pertaining to Data Governance, Data Management, Data Lineage, Data Models, Data Quality, Data Literacy and Metadata Management.

• Advanced problem-solving skills, superior communication with the ability to lead meetings, hold workshops with executives, communicate complex ideas effectively, and advocate solutions and results to technology and business audiences.

• Worked with or understand DAMA DMBOK or alternative data maturity Assessment methodologies (DCAM, etc.)
• Experience with data management/governance tools such as Purview, Collibra, Alation, Informatica, Ataccama, etc.

• Experience with client-facing activities such as requirements gathering, facilitating meetings, presentation creation, and ability to prepare client-ready materials.
• Ability to perform targeted research of the industry, client and latest developments is critical
• Understanding data platforms and fundamental architecture principles as they relate to data lakes, data warehouses, ETL, ELT and pipeline is important
• Ability to work with excel, SQL, power tools and other data technologies is important
• Knowledge of dimensional and relational modeling would be an asset
• Prior consulting experience is a nice-to-have
