As part of the Distribution Analytics team within Retail Advice & Solutions, you will have the opportunity to be at the forefront of applying data and analytics to tackle business problems. You will be helping Sun Life use analytics to deliver on our purpose of helping our Clients achieve lifetime financial security and live healthier lives. As a senior data analyst reporting to the Director, Distribution Analytics, you will use data to derive insights and implement analytics solutions for our internal partners and our Clients. You will use a variety of analytical techniques, applying statistical/scientific rigour, to improve decision-making and efficiency. The position will be located at the Sun Life office in Toronto or Waterloo. Sun Life views success in this role in demonstration of these key attributes:

• Technical skills and a thirst for learning. How to wrangle structured data is a must (i.e., SQL) with strong SAS or Python skills needed. The team currently works in SAS but the transition to Python is imminent. We\xe2\x80\x99re looking for people who strive to continuously learn and try new techniques

What will you do?

• Uncover deep insights in areas as diverse as advisor recruiting & retention, sales performance, operational analytics, and compliance & controls
• Work closely with stakeholders to understand their business problems and how data can best be leveraged to inform decisions
• Help tackle key business problems via analytical work, from requirements specification, data gathering and analysis to presentations and adoption
• Develop high-quality, robust solutions from design to implementation, leveraging best-in-breed descriptive and diagnostic analytics, with the goal of impacting business
• Turn complex analyses into easy-to-understand insights that are aligned to business objectives

What do you need to succeed?

• 3+ years\' experience in delivering insights and analytics
• Ability to draw out meaningful business insights by synthesizing information from multiple data sources
• Proficient in using one or more statistical programming languages (e.g., Python and SAS). Some experience in SAS and a willingness to use it is required as Sun Life transitions from predominant use of SAS to mainly Python
• Must be proficient in SQL coding to query and analyze data
• Strong communication skills and the ability to express complex data concepts in terms non-analysts and business leaders can understand
• Ability to work independently and to manage engagements directly with business partners
• BSc/M.S. in computer science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, or equivalent is preferred or equivalent experience

Unique Requirements

• The candidate selected for this role is required to attain Canadian Reliability Security Clearance (administered by submitting fingerprints to the RCMP, who then conduct min. 5 year history checks)

What will be nice to have?

• Big Data Technologies: cloud concepts and the AWS ecosystem, HDFS, Hive, Spark
• Experience in life insurance/wealth management, or other financial services industry (e.g., retail banking, credit card, property and casualty insurance)

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
