Join the Public Health Branch as a Senior Data Analyst and work with an amazing group of colleagues who help shape and expand the scope of our provincial Public Health Surveillance system. Reporting directly to the Director of Public Health Surveillance, you will engage in comprehensive research, meticulously analyze data, and formulate well-founded recommendations. Your expertise will be instrumental in informing the development of policies and building data visualization tools to communicate data effectively and to increase data transparency.If you are passionate about utilizing data-driven insights to enact positive change, we invite you to apply!Primary AccountabilitiesYour primary responsibilities will include analyzing complex health administrative datasets using statistical techniques and using your data analysis expertise to support population and public health assessment and surveillance. You will also:

  • build and maintain data visualization tools for internal and public audiences
  • collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, translating complex analytical concepts into actionable insights
  • present and communicate data in easy-to-understand terms
  • identify relevant data that supports areas of population health assessment and surveillance
  • provide evidence-informed advice to support strategic decision making within the Public Health Branch
  • work closely with public health epidemiologists
  • identify innovative analysis techniques to provide new insights for population health assessment and surveillance
Qualifications and ExperienceYou have completed a related bachelor\'s degree (such as computer science, natural sciences, mathematics, or economics) and have at least seven (7) years of related experience in data science, and data analytics; or a related Master\'s degree and five (5) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.You have excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to adapt information to staff at different levels, strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Consensus building, as well as team building skills, while valuing an inclusive workforce. You must be a self-starter with a high degree of personal initiative and integrity, who is able work under minimal supervision to quickly determine the root cause of complex problems within ambiguous or conflicting situations.You will also be exposed to confidential information. A high degree of judgement will be required on how that information will be used or presented, while maintaining the necessary confidentiality that is entrusted to you in this position.You have demonstrated experience with:
  • SQL programming, R, and SAS.
  • Developing and maintaining data visualization tools.
  • Responding quickly to, and understand, data requests from various sources.
  • Leading complex analytical projects and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Developing and maintaining comprehensive information and data systems.
  • Effectively communicating and presenting complex analytical information.
You must:
  • Be proficient in statistical analysis
  • Think strategically and provide insight into long-term planning and decision-making processes while applying an inclusive and diverse lens.
  • Work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, fostering an inclusive and diverse environment.
