Job Description

Buffalo Rail & Infrastructure, in partnership with Torq Transloading, is constructing an industry leading rail-to-truck transload terminal in Taylor, British Columbia, located just 15 minutes from Fort Saint John. The facility will handle high-volume frac-sand logistics through automated, high-capacity storage domes and advanced truck-loading systems engineered for reliability, safety, and efficiency. As part of our first-phase commissioning, we're hiring motivated, safety-minded professionals to help launch a modern, efficient, and growth-focused operation.

Senior Control Room Operator - Taylor Transload Terminal

Position Type:

Full-time, working a rotating shift including days and nights (12 hour workdays, 8 on/4 off), safety-sensitive, with planned hire dates in January and February 2026

As the

Senior Control Room Operator (CRO)

, you will be the nerve centre of our Taylor frac-sand terminal--overseeing railcar unloading, storage, and truck loading through advanced SCADA systems. You'll ensure real-time coordination between rail, yard, and trucking activities while providing strong shift-level leadership.

When Operations Supervision is off-site, you step in as Shift Lead, ensuring safe-work permits, isolations, job coordination, and site control are executed to standard. This is a key operational role with impact, accountability, and opportunities for growth.

Key Responsibilities



Lead day-of-shift control room operations, ensuring smooth alignment between rail, yard, and truck loading activities.

Operate and oversee SCADA (HMI) systems for dome storage, conveyors, and loadout processes.

Issue, control, and close safe-work permits; verify isolations, lockouts, and job start-ups with maintenance and supervision.

Monitor production rates, bin inventories, and system performance; take timely corrective actions when needed.

Coach and support CROs, Utilities, and Trainees on control logic, alarm response, and process troubleshooting.

Coordinate with rail operations on unloading pace, train movements, and bin capacity planning.

Dispatch trucks and manage staging to maintain flow and minimize wait times.

Maintain disciplined, professional two-way radio communication with field operators, drivers, and yard crews.

Complete thorough shift handovers, reporting, and production tracking.

Participate in and support incident response, near-miss reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Champion Buffalo Rail / TORQ Transloading safety standards, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship.

Operate small equipment (skid steer, forklift, loader, blower) as required.

Other duties as required.

Qualifications



Grade 12 or equivalent; post-secondary or technical diploma preferred. 5+ years' experience in terminal, control room, or industrial operations, with proven leadership capability. Advanced familiarity with SCADA (HMI), CMMS, and permit-to-work systems. Demonstrated mechanical and process troubleshooting ability. Strong understanding of industrial safety, lockout/tagout, and confined-space procedures. Commercial truck dispatch or marshalling experience an asset. Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, eRailSafe clearance, and physical-demands test. Valid Class 5 licence. Ability to work rotating shifts and comfortable working in all weather conditions.
