About Our Opportunity



Reporting to the Regional Manager, the Inspector Specialist 3 (Senior Compliance Officer) assists with the management and operations of the Metro office of Investigation and Enforcement, AGFT in the delivery of services and programs, efficient use of staff in the planning, scheduling and coordinating of compliance assignments.
The incumbent is expected to assume a leadership role during compliance inspections, mentoring and coaching. In addition, the Inspector Specialist;
  • Is responsible to act during the absence of the manager, during such times, this position has the full responsibility in the supervision and direction of work flow.
  • Will be responsible for providing highly technical knowledge and advice along with functional direction consistent with legislation, regulations and policy of the Department.
  • Assists with investigations, case preparation, including interviewing and taking statements for the purposes of presenting evidence at disciplinary hearings and court cases.
  • Supports in maintaining an effective compliance monitoring program at the Halifax Casino.
  • Performs inspections for the purpose of ensuring compliance of with the Gaming Control, Liquor Control, Theatre & Amusements and the Smoke Free Places Acts and associated regulations. This will include investigations and inspections of premises and gaming devices, reviewing business and financial records, verification of applications for licenses, inventories, preparing reports, providing recommendations and actions to be taken.
  • Provides advice and guidance to clients and responds to enquiries relating to regulatory compliance and adherence to the regulations. Building a good working relationship with the public, licensees, other compliance agencies, police agencies and other levels of government is essential.


About You



  • You have completed a related trade or technical training in the area of specialty, + 7 years related experience after the course completion; or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable. A useful background for this position will include experience in the following: business, compliance monitoring, investigation, law enforcement and other challenging regulatory roles.
  • You have experience understanding, and interpreting Legislation and Regulations is required and experience within the regulated areas of Liquor, Gaming, Smoke, Theatres and Amusement would be considered an asset.
  • We expect you to have a high degree of initiative, and sound judgment; possess strong interpersonal/customer relations skills and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • You must be self-motivated, professional, client focused, decisive and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • You have a good working knowledge of database spreadsheet software and word processing software, together.
  • We would consider your knowledge of basic computer components, connections, accessories and computer devices (PDA) as an asset.


Other Considerations



This position is based in Dartmouth, but regular travel through the mainland region is required. Occasion travel to Sydney and the Cape Breton region is required.
The primary hours of work will be determined by the employer and the hours of operation of premises and events licensed by AGFT. The position involves varied hours of shift work, to include evenings, nights and weekends.
The successful candidate must maintain a level three security clearance.
Pay Grade: TE 27 Salary Range: $2,669.67 - $3,100.80 Bi-Weekly
