What you\'ll do
Reporting to the Team Lead, Executive Priorities, the Senior Communication Advisor is a senior member of CNSC\'s Strategic Communications Directorate team. In addition to your role in leading complex files and providing expert strategic communications advice, you will play a crucial part in advising senior leaders within the CNSC. Your responsibilities extend beyond content creation and communications planning to encompass offering guidance to senior executives on effective communication strategies aligned with CNSC\'s mandate.

You must be a strong writer who has experience synthesizing complex scientific and technical information into clear and compelling messages tailored for both internal audiences, such as employees and external platforms, including social media, media responses, key messages, video scripts and speeches.

Senior Communications Advisors will also draft sometimes complex communications plans and as such should be staying abreast of the latest news, communication practices, tools, and trends will empower you to offer valuable perspectives to the senior leadership, ensuring that the organization\'s messaging aligns seamlessly with its overarching goals and priorities.

Essential Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor\'s degree from a recognized university in communications, journalism, or public affairs; or equivalent combination of education (minimum High School diploma) and relevant experience.

Language Requirements: Bilingual imperative with proficiency at BBB level. If you are unsure of your proficiency level, we encourage you to self-assess .

Experience in:

  • Extensive experience in providing analysis, strategic communications advice and
recommendations to senior management and clients.
  • Briefing effectively both vertically and horizontally.
  • Leading the development and implementation of communication strategies, plans, and
tools for key organizational priorities.
  • Issues management.
  • Media relations and monitoring.
  • Social media strategies and content delivery.
  • Developing and/or overseeing the production of a wide-range of communications products and activities, including speeches.
Knowledge of:
  • Knowledge of CNSC mandate
  • Significant knowledge of the preparation of communications plans and strategies in response to a variety of communication issues
  • Knowledge of Government of Canada communications policies, procedures, guidelines and directives
  • Knowledge of communications practices, technologies, trends, and best practices related to effective communications
Ability to:
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
  • Manage issues, including promptly recognizing strategic communication challenges and offering guidance to Senior Leadership
  • Synthesize complex information and convey in plain language through various tools/mediums, for various audiences
  • Evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of communications and consultation activities.
  • Prioritize and manage time effectively while handling several files, maintaining quality under tight deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Use and learn new tools and digital technologies
  • Adapt to changing daily and long-term work priorities and in managing change effectively

Asset Qualification
  • You have a background in science as well as communications
  • Experience conducting work for VIPs or Executive Team members.
  • Experience with photography/videography.
Operational Needs
  • All CNSC staff are subject to the Mobility Directive.
  • This position may require some travel.
  • Overtime: Overtime may be required.
