JOB OVERVIEW


Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Communications Advisor.


Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Affairs this position is responsible to support the Corporate Relations and Communications management team by providing effective design, implementation and maintenance of corporate relations and communications strategies, programs and policies which support OPG business strategies at the site and divisional levels.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • As a senior and experienced practitioner, oversee and deliver external communications for the company, and community outreach and corporate Functions programs and initiatives.
  • Establish, promote and sustain effective working relationships at all levels throughout OPG relating to external communications.
  • Maintain an ongoing awareness of current issues, impacts, trends and potential needs with respect to community relationships, employees and corporate issues, and the potential impact and application to the company.
  • Identify and analyze issues with respect to potential and actual impacts from a communications perspective. Anticipate and assess issues that have the potential to be significant. Provide strategic advice and guidance to OPG management based on sound judgement in regard to such matters.
  • Recommend, develop, and implement comprehensive and effective community relations, employee communications and corporate Functions strategies, processes and programs, to address issues and impacts, and to promote and maintain support for OPG\'s goals and objectives. Monitor and measure the effectiveness of these initiatives.
  • Establish and sustain sound and broad-based working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders at all levels in order to identify and integrate communications requirements which support the achievement of OPG\'s business strategies.
  • Ensure effective systems are in place to respond to written or oral requests for information, key stakeholders and employees, and in response to articles or public statements by management and external organizations. Respond to these requests as required, within specified time frames.
  • Participate as a spokesperson for OPG at community events, in community open houses, face-to-face meetings, and spokesperson presentations.
  • As directed, act as a resource and representative on various teams, committees and boards associated with community relations and communications initiatives.
  • Plan and coordinate external communications to ensure consistency and timeliness of information.
  • Coordinate vendor selection processes regarding public information products and programs.
  • When headquartered at an OPG location with an on-site Information Centre, ensure effective use of the Information Centre, including key messaging and program development and coordination. Effectively manage the Information Centre programs including community outreach, tours, and employee usage, and coordinate special and public events for the Information Centre, at the site, or in the local community.
  • Supervise and provide coaching support to Corporate Affairs work activities of project or temporary staff assigned. Develop, implement and maintain detailed work methods to ensure timelines and follow-up procedures are adhered to. Assign and check work, oversee approvals, provide instruction and training as necessary.
  • Assist in providing information to and coordinating spokesperson responses to employees, community stakeholders, and media.
  • Liaise with other OPG locations and sites with respect to both local and company-wide issues.
  • Other Duties as Required



EDUCATION


Completion of 4 years of University training (Grade XII plus 5 years), in the social, political or natural sciences.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible hybrid office environment.
  • Strong written communication skills including writing for an external audience.
  • Experience engaging with stakeholders and members of the public.
  • Experience creating and implementing strategic external communication programs and plans.
  • Experience on large infrastructure and or energy projects is an asset.
