Job Description

Our Client who plays a vital role in Alberta's Energy Industry by ensuring public safety and the environment - and contributing to responsible, efficient, and safe energy development. Has an immediate need for a Cloud Data Architect. This is a contract position for four (4) months (with possibility of extension) located in Calgary, Alberta.

Responsibilities

• Architect and design data repositories to support the project and document the design.
• Work with business and development team in designing solutions that meet the requirements.
• Provide access and security model around the data repositories as per business requirements.
• Model the data within the repositories as required and document the model in the enterprise modelling tool - ER Studio.
• Update/Extend the Data Architecture Principles, Enterprise Data Taxonomy and Enterprise Data Model as required.
• Architect and design data integration patterns, complete prototypes and create data pipelines.
• Provide interfaces for data access to downstream systems and tools.
• Conduct regular touch base and reviews with Data Architecture Practice Lead.
• Present solutions for review and approval at governance boards like Enterprise Architecture Board (EAB) and Solution Architecture Approval Board (SAAB).
• Participate in designing deployment pipelines, follow deployment standards and best practices.
• Support the testing of solutions as required.
• Plan and design data migration activities as required.
• Perform and document source to target data mappings.

Qualifications

• Experience architecting data management solutions in MS Azure.
• Experience in SQL Server, and other MS Azure based data storage and compute tools and technologies.
• Experience in design and development of scalable and secured data repositories that integrate with other technologies in service-oriented architecture.
• Experience in modelling data in tools like ER Studio.
• Knowledge of Azure Service (e.g., Storage, Resource Group, etc.
• Experience in architecting design patterns and implementing data MS Azure data integration technologies like MS Azure Data Factory, Synapse, ADLS, Databricks, etc.
• Hands on experience with JSON and XML representation of data schemas.
• Ability to deliver the best patterns and practices to solutions in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years' experience architecting data architecture and data management solutions.
• 2+ years' experience Implementing data management solutions in MS Azure cloud environment using PaaS and SaaS technologies and tools.
• 3+ years of modelling data in tools like ER studio.
• 2+ years' experience building back-end data repositories for cloud-based data collection solutions.
• 1+ experience using Azure DevOps (e.g., Git source control, pull request, etc.)

Nice to Haves

• Microsoft Azure certifications in Data Architecture, Data Engineering, or similar certifications.
• Knowledge of, and experience working Oil and Gas domain data.
