Senior Client Accounting Analyst, Field Accounting & Operations, Canadian Business Banking

Purpose

The Senior Accounting Analyst is accountable for ensuring the quality, accuracy and timeliness of client accounting, and supporting the accounting team to meet all of its deadlines and responsibilities. You will work under general guidance from the Manager, Field Accounting and interact with other members of the team.

Accountabilities

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Provides excellent customer service by assuming ownership for the accurate, timely, and proper administration of a portfolio of client loan and investment accounts which includes the following financings: term, leasing, subordinated, equity investments, non-performing loans, syndication financings, and other special loans & investments;
o Assumes responsibility for the full accounting administration of assigned client accounts which includes the following: recording new financings, preparing disbursements, recording other transactions in the client ledger, processing client billing, calculating loan payout amounts, processing audit confirmations, determining interest calculations, and recording amendments;
o Records and maintains sub-ledger and general ledger transactions by ensuring accurate, timely, and complete processing;
o Verifies work of other Field Accounting team members to ensure accuracy and integrity of the sub-ledger database. Provides constructive criticism and coaching/training advice to other team members as part of the verification process.
o Performs various other general accounting duties as assigned which may include bank reconciliations, financial reports for Roynat management, review of bank accounts, reconciliations, and other financial analysis;
o Provides excellent teamwork in assisting the entire accounting group to meet various deadlines which include client billing periods, month-ends, and submission of information to Roynat management and to the Bank.
  • Enquiries, Reporting, Billing and Deliverables to BNS
o Works with the Corporate group on preparing/reviewing reporting to various internal partners including monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting to Roynat and the Bank of Nova Scotia.
o Liaises with Canadian Banking Finance, Executive, external/internal auditors and District/Regional Offices as required to provide and obtain information;
o Supports the Field Accounting team in meeting various deadlines such as client billing, month-end closing and submission of the client portfolio to the Bank.
  • Verifies and approves wires for disbursements, payments and transfers to clients and suppliers in ScotiaConnect. Verifies and approves AP transactions and signs off in cheques if the absence of Manager or Director.
  • Assists in Training New Hires
o Works with Manager, Field Accounting and Intermediate Accounting Analyst, on training of Client Services Group on best practices and procedures that would improve collaboration of the Field Accounting and District Offices
o Supports Manager, Field Accounting in planning and leading the activities to enhance communication and collaboration of Accounting Officers with District Offices (conference calls, meetings etc.)
o Contributes to effective team morale and employee relations through positive interaction with team members and participation in activities such as team meetings.
  • Provide technical support to ensure the enquiries from District Offices and from Executive team are responded to in a timely and accurate manner. Knowledge of PAS system and SQL queries is essential.
o Maintain an up-to-date and strong knowledge of the accounting applications and the guidelines published on the internal website and those set out in the Term Financing, Leasing and Equity manuals as needed to handle account administration matters.
  • Continuous Process Analysis and Process Improvement
o Actively identify possible procedural efficiencies in an effort to streamline processes.
o Participate in system changes and maintenance through testing.
o Work on special projects as assigned.
  • Understand how the Bank\'s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank\'s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education / Experience / Other Information:

Education
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years\' experience in a related Accounting position.
  • Completion or later stage of completion of an accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA)
Skills/Work Experience
  • Strong financial accounting knowledge and excellent skills in financial analysis.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and to represent the Finance group at different forums requiring subject matter expertise and strong problem-resolution skills.
  • Ability to see \'the big picture\xe2\x80\x9d and analyse complex information.
  • Strong knowledge of sub-ledger and general ledger.
  • Ability and intent to align all business decisions with Scotiabank\'s Guidelines for Business Conduct and its Guiding Principles, to promote and respect confidentiality by protecting the integrity of information.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong attention to detail with superior analytical skills.
  • Strong ability to prioritize workload and understanding urgency.
  • A high level of motivation and commitment.
  • A high level of capability with MS Excel and MS Word
  • Ability to work in a Hybrid work arrangement (i.e., remote and in office)
  • Ability to work non-standard hours as per business need
