Purpose

The Senior Analyst, Treasury (Analyst II) position involves work in both Corporate Treasury and Project Finance. In Corporate Treasury, the role involves support on capital market financings (debt, equity, etc.). The candidate will play a key role in all aspects of the financing process including documentation of terms, due diligence, and closing transactions. The position will include work in the financial planning process including analysis of financing structures, credit metrics and covenants, and liquidity within the company's business units. Within Project Finance, the role involves support on Tax Equity, Construction Loans and other Project Financing transactions.

Accountabilities

  • Support all aspects of the financing process including: market eminence, soliciting initial lender interest, soliciting indicative term sheets, due diligence, financial close, drawing down debt facilities, lender reporting, servicing and repayment of debt facilities on maturity.
  • Assisting the Project Finance team in negotiations with financing parties through all deal phases ensuring best possible terms for Algonquin.
  • Responsibilities connected to aspects of the financing process including the management of due diligence. Expedite and coordinate efforts of the various Algonquin contributors, ensuring due diligence and funding milestones are met.
  • Support Project Finance and Corporate Treasury teams on presentations to senior leadership, rating agencies and other external parties.
  • Partner with Algonquin's business development team to ensure collaboration and bilateral support of the overall company's development strategy.
  • Work to create repeatable work processes for sourcing and executing on Project and Tax Equity financings.
  • Support the transition and assimilation of the Tax Equity partnership for the subject project, related to Operations, Asset Management and Finance within Algonquin.
  • Work closely with the business development group to build and maintain the financial models for each project under development.
  • Perform duties such as: financial modeling, maintaining data rooms, updating due diligence logs, market intelligence, planning conference attendance, updating reporting dashboards and other tasks related to the management of the project financing team
  • Build and enhance financial models to support the financing of renewable energy and other utility projects.
  • Provide quality control over models used to optimize the project capital structure (including tax equity) to optimize return metrics.
  • Analyze financing structures to achieve corporate objectives (rating agency treatment, tax efficiency, cost of capital)
  • Provide support to Senior Treasury Manager in financing plan to maintain credit metrics and liquidity across multiple legal entities
  • Provide support to Senior Treasury Manager to ensure compliance with debt covenants
Education and Experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in an analytical role
  • University Degree in Business or Commerce
  • CPA or CFA is an asset
  • Poise, presence and professionalism to communicate to senior management
  • Prior experience with corporate finance, project finance / tax equity transactions, M&A due diligence, deal advisory, investment banking and/or other relevant financing experience.
  • Very strong MS Excel financial modelling skills with 3+ years of demonstrable experience developing, managing and enhancing complex financial models. Experience in Visual Basics is an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the confidence to question current processes
  • Ability to work under extreme pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to work independently and manage priorities
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and team-building skills
