About Our Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources and Renewables is looking for a highly motivated and dynamic person to join our Clean Buildings team.

As a senior member of the Clean Buildings team, you will have the unique opportunity to help shape, guide and support the development of clean energy policy and programs in the buildings sector. This includes energy efficiency, off oil programs, net zero buildings, workforce development and other buildings related initiatives.

Primary Accountabilities

• Develop and advise on complex strategies, policies, programs, regulatory development, and major initiatives related to energy efficiency and sustainable energy.
• Conduct environmental scans and research policy directions, regulations and practices in other jurisdictions within the context of energy efficiency and the built environment.
• Provide analytical and evaluative expertise to inform and provide leadership in the development and implementation of policy options, strategies and activities with a primary focus on energy efficiency and buildings.
• Negotiate and manage various departmental, governmental and non-governmental interests, consult with municipalities, environmental and community groups, and businesses on matters relating to energy efficiency and sustainable energy. Also play a key role in managing stakeholder relations within some programs.
• Support program design, funding applications/contracts.

Qualifications and Experience

You will have a Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree plus six years of related experience; or Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree plus four years of related experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.

As the successful candidate you must have:

• Demonstrated knowledge of the buildings sector, including energy performance and GHG mitigation.
• Demonstrated experience in program design and evaluation.
• Demonstrated experience in stakeholder relations and community engagement.
• Experience in managing project and/or program funding agreements.

The following would be an asset:

• Strong interpersonal, communication (written and verbal) skills with ability to maintain effective internal and external stakeholder relationships.
• Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and action work under tight timelines.
• Self-direction and ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Problem-solving skills and ability to develop practical options to address complex issues.

As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate knowledge of provincial energy initiatives, with specific knowledge of the Province\xe2\x80\x99s energy efficiency and climate change policies and programs.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Additional Information

There are two positions available; one permanent and one Term. The Term employment opportunity has an anticipated end date of May 19, 2024. The appointment status (\xe2\x80\x98term\xe2\x80\x99, \xe2\x80\x98temporary\xe2\x80\x99 or \xe2\x80\x98casual\xe2\x80\x99) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade: PR 17

Salary Range: $3,091.70 - $3,631.17 Bi-Weekly
