The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Specialist, Compensation to join our Compensation team. This is a permanent, based out of our Toronto office.

As a Senior Specialist, Compensation is responsible for providing support in the management and implementation of Vale\'s compensation programs relating to Base Metals employees. The incumbent provides assistance and advice to employees and managers as it relates to salary planning, incentive programs, performance management programs and other compensation related matters and projects. As part of the key responsibilities for this position, you will:

  • Responsible to align business needs with local market practices and corporate guidelines, seeking to create long-term value by providing the best compensation solutions for Vale businesses in North Atlantic, PTVI, VNC and Asia Refineries.
  • Responsible for researching, analyzing, implementing and the compliance of Compensation and Performance Management policies, strategy, plans, programs and systems across the region.
  • Lead on assigned project teams including identification of resource requirements, implementation, communication and evaluation strategies. Projects are usually global in nature - examples: management assessment (BPF), career ladder for Base Metals, compensation committee process, implementation of job clean up initiatives, etc.
  • Stays current with trends related to Total Compensation and Executive Compensation and where appropriate incorporates these trends into the function\xe2\x80\x99s strategy
  • Lead the annual short-term and long-term incentive plan processes including award calculation, payment, training sessions for HRBPs and communication to executives across Base Metals locations. Align on timing and key variables with CoE and Finance teams.
  • Lead the salary planning process including the review of system set-up, HRBP support, payroll validation and development of communication materials for managers. Align with all parties on the timing, process, and communication/execution.
About You

Education
  • Undergraduate degree in human resources, or other related field
  • CCP or CHRP designations are preferred
Experience
  • 10+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in compensation or other HR areas
Skills
  • Collaboration: ability to lead individual team, to foster a team cultures that achieves common goals and objectives, and work well with both internal and cross-functional teams to ensure company goals and objectives are met
  • Organization Skills: ability to efficiently manage individual workload and team resource workloads (Sr. and Jr. Analysts)
  • Analytical Skills: ability to understand complex problems, work with large amounts of data, facts and figures and can complete analytics to identify root cause solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Able to write and speak clearly, communicating complex topics to team, local HR and employees.
  • Attention to Detail: ensures data accuracy while entering data in spreadsheets, systems, tools, or preparing reports
  • Systems: Strong understanding of HRIS system configuration and processing requirements for all employee groups and locations in scope
  • Microsoft Office: Expert proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
