The Opportunity

The Pembina Institute is a non-partisan think tank that advocates for strong, effective policies to support Canadas clean energy transition. Through research, consulting and convening, we employ highly collaborative approaches to reduce the environmental impacts of energy production and use. This is a pivotal moment and its all hands on deck here. Were searching for a Senior Analyst to play a role in advancing research to support the reduction of emissions from oil and gas emissions.

The Position

Canada is currently developing some of the worlds most ambitious climate policies at a time when major changes are happening in global energy systems. Our oil and gas sector is at a pivotal moment. Decisions made this decade will impact the trajectory of the sector for decades to come. Our oil and gas program works to advance leading-edge policies that are needed for the oil and gas industry to do its fair share in helping Canada meet its climate targets and prepare the industry to successfully navigate the energy transition.

Reporting to the Director of Oil and Gas, in this role you will support our team in advocating for strong policies to reduce emissions from oil and gas production. We are looking for someone with experience in the oil and gas sector and strong data analysis skills; a team player who can create content that communicates complex issues in a compelling way to decision-makers to advance our policy goals.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough qualitative and technical data driven analyses of energy systems, emissions, technologies, and policy to support our policy advocacy.
  • Manage and cultivate constructive relationships with government, industry leaders, other ENGOS, and Indigenous community members, and collaborate with those groups to advance ambitious climate policies.
  • Collaboratively create and lead high-quality projects, including reports, presentations, briefing notes and funding proposals.
  • Represent the Pembina Institutes views at meetings, regulatory hearings, presentations, and in the media.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
  • A masters degree in science, engineering, sustainability, economics, public policy or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience working on energy and environmental issues in industry, academia, government, or the non-profit sector.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with a variety of groups.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated interest in climate change, policy, and the oil and gas sector.
  • Experience conducting data analysis using Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex matters in plain language and in a variety of formats such as formal reports, blogs and social media posts.
Other Valuable Qualifications
  • Experience at multi-stakeholder tables or in finding solutions within a group that reflects a range of interests and perspectives.
  • Direct experience in developing or implementing provincial and/or federal environmental policy and regulation.

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with experience. The hiring range for the position is $70,000 to $80,000 annually, with a range maximum of $90,000 obtained with increased skill and experience in the role.
