Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Lead, Reporting Services, the Senior Analyst - Physician Learning Program is part of a dedicated resource team providing data and information in response to queries from the Physician Learning Program (PLP) teams at the University of Calgary and University of Alberta. You will consult with PLP leadership to define the data required, extract, analyze and present data in an appropriate format and provide recommendations. The data and information provided by the Senior Analyst contributes to PLP research projects supporting physician initiatives for clinical quality improvement. The Senior Analyst plays a vital role in ensuring quality analytic output by supporting accessible best practice, communication, and shared improvement. We are seeking a team player with strong technical and communication skills, a curious nature and positive and engaged approach. This position is program funded by the Physician Learning Program and therefore is temporary long term in alignment with the Physician Learning Program, currently until March 2024. The PLP program has been continuously funded for over a decade and extension past the current term is considered likely based on ongoing funding discussions. All Non-Union/Exempt positions are being reviewed for possible inclusions in the AUPE General Support Services bargaining unit. If this position is impacted, the incumbent will be notified accordingly. There is flexibility as to the location of this position is within the Province of Alberta. At the time of appointment the successful candidate may discuss location options with the hiring manager.

Description:

The Senior Analyst - Physician Learning Program uses their knowledge of healthcare analytics and expertise together with effective and accurate written and verbal communication skills to provide data support for PLP projects. Working within the analytic team, you will be consulting with PLP leadership to fully understand and define the data request, analyze available administrative source system data and design data extracts/scripts to pull required data from multiple systems and combine to create information in support of PLP projects. You will apply business rules, investigate and adjust for limitations to obtain reliable results. You will ensure integrity and rigor of primary and secondary datasets for PLP evaluation purposes, including data retrieval, linking and cleaning, analysis, validation, report preparation and dashboard presentations in Tableau. In this role, you will work with multiple data types and sources including, but not necessarily limited to, Connect Care, Health Records Abstract, Admission/Discharge/Transfer, Continuing Care, Emergency Department, Waitlist, Fee-for-service, Registry, Pharmacy, Laboratory, and Diagnostic Imaging. You will need to manage and balance priorities to meet project deliverable timelines as well as be available to attend PLP meetings in person as required.

Required Qualifications:

Master\'s-level education with a strong quantitative component in a related field, e.g., community health sciences, health economics, biomedical statistics, epidemiology, quality assurance, or several years of equivalent experience. Minimum 3 years\' related experience, preferably in a healthcare environment. Minimum 5 years\' experience working with spreadsheets and databases and tools for querying, integrating, analyzing, reporting and disseminating data. Minimum 5 years\' experience in the application of information technology, database design and information management. Demonstrated Oracle SQL or other comparable database query and report writing experience. Knowledge and ability to produce a variety of descriptive, inferential and predictive statistics. Proficiency in English, with strong verbal and written communication skills capable of producing reports for audiences with different backgrounds and areas of expertise. Excellent interpersonal relationship building skills and a demonstrated ability and interest to work with others effectively in teams. Demonstrated high level of organizational skills and collaboration is required. Additional Required Qualifications:

Ability to understand clinical issues, and to communicate effectively with a broad variety of people at different levels within the organization and with different skills and expertise. Experience in cleaning, linking, creating, modifying and analyzing datasets in a statistical or database-management software package. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite tools (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Visio, Access) and the ability to become proficient with new software packages. Must abide by the highest standards of confidentiality and have a sound understanding of the principles within Alberta\'s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, as well as the Health Information Act. Broad understanding of health systems and health system information systems. Preferred Qualifications:

Connect Care (EPIC) software reporting proficiency or experience with the Connect Care clinical information system preferred. Experience with AHS administrative and clinical datasets preferred. Experience presenting data using visualization tools such as Tableau and statistical software applications is beneficial. Experience working with teams that are geographically separated is beneficial.
