The Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation sets the strategic direction and oversees the administration of the University of Ottawa\xe2\x80\x99s research enterprise, including funding, equipment and facilities, international collaborations, partnerships and business development.

Position purpose:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Programs, provides leadership, high-quality guidance and support to faculty and affiliated institute administrators and researchers in order to increase the international reach of the University, in terms of both visibility and external funding. Identifies funding opportunities to support international research projects, liaises with internal units and external organizations, provides information and advice on developing and submitting competitive proposals, and engages the university community in developing strategic international initiatives.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Act as the key resource person for the researchers\xe2\x80\x99 community to prepare competitive grant applications and to link researchers, faculty-based facilitators and their teams to potential partners and networks abroad and to ensure that competitive application packages are being submitted by our researchers to international agencies, foundations and programs.
  • On behalf of the Office of the Vice-President Research and Innovation (OVPRI), work closely with faculties, affiliated institutes, and other units on campus to increase the quantity of proposals submitted each year to key national and international funding agencies.
  • Identify, appraise and develop partnerships with international academic and research institutions as well as private sector and philanthropic organizations and ensure new initiatives are aligned with the University\xe2\x80\x99s research and academic priorities.
  • Liaise with a variety of internal and external publics, including organizations like Canadian and foreign government ministries, embassies, private sector groups, associations foundations and research granting councils in order to identify potential funding sources and to disseminate relevant information to the University\xe2\x80\x99s research community.
What you will bring:
  • University degree, preferably Masters level
  • At least 5-10 years of experience in business development in an industry setting, and/or pre-award processes in a research setting
  • Sound knowledge of the concepts and practices relating to post-award processes and research management in a university setting as well as sound knowledge of the hospital environment an asset
  • Knowledge of policies, guidelines and of the granting/contracting practices of Canadian and international funding agencies (e.g. NIH, NSF, IDRC), including science-based departments, associations and foundations
  • Familiarity with international science, technology and innovation priorities and challenges, and agencies and foundations sponsoring research projects an essential asset
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, administrative and communications skills
  • Demonstrated superior computer application skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Ability to liaise with various groups of administrators, researchers and stakeholders involved in research partnerships, and ability to mobilize all the key players
  • Multicultural sensitivity
  • Bilingualism in English and French (spoken and written)
