Working with the Program Manager, the incumbent supports the development of strategies, activities and tools for the implementation and administration of the Friendly Calls Program in Quebec, including the implementation of evidence-based best practices. The incumbent represents the Canadian Red Cross, Quebec, with internal and external partners. They also support other ongoing engagements of the Mental Health/Safety and Wellbeing (MH/SWB) team, including emergency and recovery operations.
In this role, you will: Support the planning and development of the Quebec Friendly Calls Program

  • Contribute to the development of a methodology and processes that are specific to the Quebec Friendly Calls Program and ensure that they are based on good practices and evidence.
  • Monitor trends, evolving standards and research, ensuring they are integrated into the program, as appropriate.
  • In collaboration with the MH/SWB and Friendly Calls teams, ensure that existing and future initiatives that fall under the Friendly Calls program are consistent with CRC strategies, lessons learned, evidence, minimum standards for mental health and moral support services regarding accountability, child protection, gender equality and diversity, and internationally accepted standards of practice.
  • Support Friendly Calls Program activities and objectives.
  • Support the integration of the Friendly Calls Program into various CRC services.
  • Assist in developing, drafting, and updating documentation, job aids, and training for volunteers and staff.
  • Support the ongoing program evaluation.
  • Advise the leadership on risks and appropriate mitigation measures, including protection-related considerations.
Promote community engagement
  • Provide leadership in the development and operationalization of a community engagement strategy, including the stakeholder engagement strategy, and the development of tools, guidelines, reference materials and training.
  • Assist in mapping out local resources and work collaboratively with other CRC teams to implement a resource directory and related processes.
Provide enhanced psychosocial support
  • Provide direct psychosocial support to registered individuals and families with enhanced needs.
  • Provide technical support to members of the Friendly Calls team as well as volunteers (escalated cases, mental health, gender equality, protection, inclusion and engagement, etc.).
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and partners
  • Build and maintain relationships and partnerships with internal and external partners, as well as with colleagues from the national and provincial teams.
  • Represent the Quebec team at various meetings and working committees.
  • Support the MH/SWB team\xe2\x80\x99s involvement in emergency responses
  • Work with CRC staff, MH/SWB advisors and Friendly Calls Program advisors to provide MH/SWB support during emergency responses in Quebec or across Canada.

What we are looking for:
  • An undergraduate certificate or degree in psychosocial intervention or mental health; any other combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • At least five years of relevant experience and at least one year of experience in program development and implementation.
  • Training and/or experience in providing Psychological First Aid, psychosocial support and/or crisis intervention.
  • Current Professional Registration (registered and in good standing).
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills (bilingual in English/French).
  • Proficiency with the MS Office suite.
  • A valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
  • Explore and analyze complex issues and prepare written evaluations and recommendations for leadership.
  • Think critically and strategically about how specific actions and messages will impact different stakeholders.
  • Advocate for and reinforce self-determination and coping mechanisms (i.e., provide support to restore traditional forms of community-based support and coping mechanisms).


Working conditions:
  • This position is unionized, temporary and full time (at 35 hours a week).
  • This position is based in Montr\xc3\xa9al or Qu\xc3\xa9bec City.
  • Most of the work will be performed in a remote or office environment.
  • Travel within the province and across Canada may be required.
  • May be required to respond in disaster areas, in difficult and unstable conditions (environmental, physical, social, etc.) and uncomfortable conditions (noise, odours, smoke, humidity, vulnerable clients).
  • May be required to lift up to 20 kg of relief supplies during preparedness activities and responses.
  • Possibility of working during non-traditional hours (i.e., evenings and weekends) and working long hours in a challenging context.
  • May be required to be on call as scheduled.
  • luency in French is required, English is an asset.
