JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for dedicated and results driven individuals to join our team in the role of Senior Advisor Finance.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Senior Advisor Finance will carry out the following duties in order to plan, coordinate, and perform assignments:

  • Act as process owner for project management, risk, performance reporting and business planning, providing coordination, guidelines, assessments, and consolidation to ensure that the needs of the businesses are met.
  • Provide independent assessment of the financial integrity of plans, projections, and performance of client organizations.
  • Ensure completeness of plans by testing realism/credibility of assumptions, and by participating in the process with line organizations.
  • Participate in development and maintenance of the financial internal control framework.
  • Participate in the review of policies & procedures on behalf of the manager.
  • Act as a representative of the department on financial initiatives.
  • Provide advice and guidance on financial policies, procedures and organizational authorities, monitoring to ensure compliance with advice given.
  • Monitor and provide assessments of resource and program performance to client organization managers, to facilitate redirection.
  • Carry out detailed financial analysis for HQ-based organization management, as required.
  • Review business cases for financial soundness, and consistency with OPG, N/corporate policies & standards.
  • Review major external contracts for financial risk, and conduct/review cost benefit of investment proposals.
  • Perform internal assessments of effectiveness of controls within the customer division.
  • Prepare quarterly Letter of Representation in partnership with line management.
  • Maintain a documented divisional control base, including funding approvals, projections & variance explanations; monitor performance against base.
  • Perform a review of purchase requisitions for conformance with policy and for soundness of business decision.
  • Meet nuclear/corporate financial information reporting requirements.
EDUCATION
  • 4-year university degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of 8+ years of experience working with management and financial accounting and budget flows.
  • Requires experience with the interpretation of accounting/financial data for the preparation of management accounting reports, financial statements and forecasts, benchmarking analysis and various ad-hoc requests pertaining to work program optimization and continuous performance improvement.
  • Requires an in-depth knowledge of the BU cost model to effectively provide independent assessment of the financial integrity of plans, projections and performance of client organizations.
  • Requires experience in developing solutions and implementing new systems or standards related to OPG\'s budgeting and accounting concepts.
  • Requires experience to be able to conduct analyses and prepare the appropriate documentation as well as to understand the needs of a diverse organization as it relates to a variety of financial reporting, management, administrative systems, procedures and processes.
  • Engineering technical background would be beneficial
  • Project Management experience would be an asset
