Job Summary The Senior Accountant Lease Administration is responsible for the end-to-end management of leasing activities at CN. In accordance with the new Lease Accounting Standard adopted in 2019, the role is accountable for various steps of the lease lifecycle, such as ensuring CN is compliant with new leasing guidelines, administering CN\xe2\x80\x99s leased asset portfolio, entering lease accounting information from lease contracts into CN\xe2\x80\x99s leasing system, performing lease qualification and classification tests, administering lease payments, performing month-end and quarter-end close procedures. Furthermore, the incumbent prepares monthly account reconciliations to ensure that financial data in the leasing system is accurate and ensures that CN\xe2\x80\x99s quarterly financial statements are fairly stated. The position also performs Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls within day-to-day tasks, and prepares reporting data, complex calculations, schedules, and reports for CN\xe2\x80\x99s quarterly and annual financial statements. Main Responsibilities Lease Administration

  • Evaluate and determine the accounting treatment for new and current leases
  • Create, update and maintain lease information in the leasing system and database
  • Process lease payments
  • Establish controls for offline credits related to leased cars
  • Manage lease accounting related to different phases of a lease
  • Perform various lease related activities to ensure compliance with the new Lease Accounting Standard such as lease qualification and classification tests, lease term and option assessments and lease re-measurements
  • Maintain and establish good relations with CN\xe2\x80\x99s lessors, internal stakeholders (Finance, Treasury, Real Estate, Taxation, Procurement and Supply Management, IT, Operations) as well as internal and external auditors
Financial Reporting
  • Prepare lease schedules included in the financial statements, notes, management discussions and analysis (MD&A), and executive binder
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of various accounts
  • Execute monthly reporting for leases
  • Review purchase and lease contracts for the purpose of reporting future commitments and embedded derivatives
  • Execute ad-hoc requests for data extracts related to lease accounting
  • Prepare quarterly regulatory reporting schedules for Properties
  • Assist with the Authorization for Expenditure (AFE)[NB1] approval process and provide support related to SAP Project System(PS) and Asset Accounting (AA) modules
Working Conditions The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and manage stress. Requirements Experience Accounting
  • Between 2 to 5 years of relevant work experience
o Experience with accounting policy research* o Experience with accounting and leasing systems
  • Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset
Education/Certification/Designation
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Accounting
  • Member of the Order of Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA)

  • Knowledge of US generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

  • Knowledge of SAP (Financial Accounting (FI), Controlling (CO), Asset Accounting (AA), Project System (PS), Plant Maintenance (PM), and Material Management (MM) Modules)
  • Knowledge of Business Warehouse (BW)*
  • Any knowledge for any of the above would be considered as an asset
