SEMCO Energy - Director - Digital SEI

WGL, a subsidiary of AltaGas, is looking for an experienced Director, Digital - Division Lead to lead its Utilities digital team at its SEMCO division, who will make a significant contributions to the future of the company through digital transformation. The Director, Digital - Division Lead role is a challenging and exciting leadership position with the opportunity to make a significant impact on WGL's strategic growth and is accountable for ensuring pragmatic and effective delivery of digital services to the SEMCO division, as well as to the broader Utilities team. The successful candidate will report to the VP, Digital - Utilities and will have a significant impact on how the division operates, driving digital transformation and business growth for SEMCO and WGL through innovation, operational excellence, and successful execution of a highly complex transformation roadmap, whilst positioning digital as an innovative business enabler. The goal is for this position to help create alignment and efficiencies between the SEMCO division and WGL, while delivering exceptional service to SEMCO stakeholders.

This role will have ongoing interaction with the SEMCO leadership team and is a key member of the Digital leadership team (DLT) at Utilities based in Port Huron, Michigan, with occasional travel required to Springfield, VA or Washington D.C.

Key Accountabilities

Working within a matrix structure, provides local leadership and oversight for the digital function at SEMCO, partnering with other members of the Utilities digital team to ensure pragmatic and effective demand, delivery and sustainment of all digital services incl. innovation, engineering, data science, business process mgmt. (BPM) and applications mgmt.

Supporting the VP, Utilities, provides counsel and guidance to SEMCO leaders on digital / information technology and its impact across the full range of business strategy, programs, products and services, and operations issues

Partners with SEMCO leaders to understand the strategic direction of the business, determine acceptable levels of service and risk for the organization, and develop and maintain digital roadmaps that enable this

Partners with the Security Team to ensure the pragmatic and effective management of digital risk and cybersecurity at all utilities

Partners with Utilities leaders to proactively implement practices that meet agreed-on policies and standards for digital risk and cybersecurity

Partners with other members of the team to build and maintain a digital organization capable of successfully executing the digital roadmaps

Partners with the digital office, SCM HR, finance and communications to ensure pragmatic and effective management of people, finances, vendors, procurement, resource capacity, performance, value, and communications

Employing a tailored risk-based and pragmatic approach, collaborates with SEMCO leaders, and other members of the DLT, to successfully execute the digital roadmaps in the form of programs, projects, and other ad hoc initiatives - ensures consistent delivery that is on schedule, on cost, within quality targets, and delivers on targeted outcomes

Drives and applies innovative and creative solutioning to business challenges

Direct / Indirect reports:

The Director, Digital Utilities - SEMCO, will have ~3 to 5 direct reports but maintains responsibility for managing all local Digital resources through indirect reporting relationships (this includes employees, contractors and service providers) who support the SEMCO division (~30 to 50 people).

Qualifications, education, and experience

8 to 10+ years of IT leadership experience, incl. a mix of enterprise architecture, solution delivery, applications management, infrastructure and operations, software engineering, cybersecurity, and IT risk and controls

Professional IT certification in two or more related certifications such as: IT4IT, PMP, PRINCE2, MSP, TOGAF, ITIL, CISSP, CISA, CRISC, CISM

Utilities experience is highly desirable
