Who: An experienced Security and Communication professional. Experience working on access control, CCTV, burglar alarm systems, and wiring. NSP Inc. is searching for a Security Systems Technician who is a positive and team-oriented professional with a desire to develop and increase their capabilities within the security industry. The identified professional will be responsible for working with a great team installing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting & repairing electronic security systems and data communication networks.
Accountabilities:

  • Performs or coordinates the design, procurement, installation, preventative maintenance, functional testing, and operation of:
    • Standard security and surveillance equipment including enclosures, mounts, racks, etc.
    • Access control, intrusion detection, and surveillance hardware and devices.
    • Servers, switches, networks, workstations, clients, etc.
    • Typical network and communications equipment.
    • Provides subject matter expertise related to security devices
  • Creation of documentation detailing the above
  • Install and terminate Copper and fiber data communications cable and connectivity
  • Set-up & program security, access control, intrusion, audio visual and CCTV system communications network
  • Perform system troubleshooting
  • Liaise with Corporate Security Sr Specialist, IT, client and telecom groups as required
  • Evaluate work orders and requests, establishes priorities
  • Coordinates with contractors.
You will be responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
Skills, Capabilities and Experience:
  • 3-5 years’ security systems technician experience including installing low voltage structured cabling systems
  • Experience installing access control systems, video system devices, and IT networking products
  • Understand standard concepts, practices, and procedures within industry
  • Knowledge of low voltage electronics, wiring, and color standards
  • Knowledge of electrical color standards, connections, components (power supplies, resistors, etc.)
  • Experience in the construction industry coordinating with trades, sites, and key stakeholders
  • Knowledge of electrical and communications test equipment
  • Strong Networking Principles
  • Be able to work in secure and sensitive areas
  • Strong Cyber Security knowledge and awareness
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance are necessary
  • Ability to successfully complete a DMV and background verification
  • Must be able to independently resolve a variety of issues (technical, logical or other)
  • Obtains quotes for repair and/or installation of NSPI security systems.
  • Able to train NSPI employees in the use of security systems.
  • Responds to NSPI emergencies and closures including in adverse weather to secure NSPI assets.
  • Observes contractor work and brings any safety concerns to their attention as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Preferred:
  • Strong understanding of Communications Networks
  • Strong Networking Principles
  • Previous experience working within large institutions, agencies or utilities would be considered an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of project management
  • Basic locksmithing knowledge
  • Basic knowledge with Kantech, Exacqvision, Cisco, and AXIS products
  • Familiarity with BICSI standards.
