JOB SUMMARY
Transit Information & Marketing is responsible for the delivery of public-facing information services and marketing to improve the customer experience, the OC Transpo brand, and transit services in the City of Ottawa. You are responsible for:
Leading the team that is responsible for content and user experience for OC Transpo\xe2\x80\x99s website and other existing and future digital platforms that provide information to transit customers and stakeholders
recommending, planning, coordinated development, management and implementation of communication programs that support the understanding, promotion and use of public transit services by customers and staff, through electronic, internet, intranet, telephone and mobile communication channels;
planning, coordinating and supervising the activities of a team of application and data administrators, and content providers, and planning and managing the contracted services of support providers and system development projects;
applying communications, transit, and systems expertise in the creation and deployment of content for the public and transit staff, concerning all aspects of the business including transit service, routing and schedules, policies, marketing objectives, and operational and management procedures, and the suitability, quality, and effectiveness of this content and delivery systems/channels;
ensuring public access to timely and accurate service information on a 24x7 basis, coordinated with transit marketing, planning and operations units, IT infrastructure providers and on-street and facility maintenance staff;
developing content for, and ensuring access to, employee intranet for transit operations, maintenance, management and Para Transpo staff, through a secure, interactive browsing environment, in support of employee engagement and business communication programs;
providing professional leadership and input into the planning, implementation, and administration of policies and programs for the Transit Information and Marketing unit
negotiating resources, cost and timing of system development and deployment activities, through contracts and partnerships with internal and external IT professionals, transit industry professionals and corporations providing transit communication products; and
developing and monitoring operating budgets, and for managing the human resources of the section, including forecasting staffing levels, hiring, performance management and discipline of staff as necessary.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 3 year university degree in Communications, English, Information Systems or related field, or 3 year community college diploma in Information Systems, Business or Communications. Minimum of 6 years of related experience with at least 3 years in a transit environment in the planning or communications field, and 4 years of experience in multimedia production for the general public (web, IVR, video and print) in a supervisory capacity, and 2 years in systems development work such as technical writing, documentation, requirements specification and project management.
Extensive knowledge of Transit network, specific routes, schedules, fares, and signage
Transit information systems and information architecture
Practical & Conceptual knowledge of GIS, route itinerary planning, 24 hour scheduling, vehicle blocks etc.
Project Management techniques, methodologies and practices
Verbal, non-verbal and written communication techniques
General knowledge of the City of Ottawa and of corporate and departmental policies and procedures
Legislation, policies, regulations, guidelines and operational procedures relevant to the operational area
Contract document preparation, the tendering process and supervision of contracted services
Working knowledge of corporate human resource policies, practices and collective agreements related to managing in a unionized environment
Financial management practices and budget processes
Computer applications, including MS Office, and specialized industry-standard graphics software including Quark Xpress, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
Corporate software programs such as SAP, Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook
Internet, desktop publishing, and graphics software, voice processing, and Transit specific software applications & systems such as TPOS, Hastus, 560-1000, and Schedprint
Computer information data systems organizing principles and practices, such as for relational data bases
Systems development methodologies
Must possess the training, experience and knowledge to organize the work and its performance.
Must be familiar with all applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the work place, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and City policies
