Job Title: Seasonal Groundside Maintenance Specialist
Reports to: Manager, Airfield Services
Term position starting late October 2022 - mid/late April 2023
Closing Date: September 2, 2022
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Airfield Services, the Seasonal Groundside Maintenance Specialist maintains and repairs all groundside operation surfaces. This role assists in providing a safe environment for our aircraft, the travelling public and cargo at our 24 hour operation. This seasonal role is to maintain the groundside area during the winter season. The terms will be in effect from which may be extended by mutual consent based on operational requirements.
Responsibilities include:

  • Operate front end loaders, trucks, skid steers and tailgate sanders to ensure our campus roadways and parking lots are free of snow and debris;
  • Monitor and eliminate excessive ice buildup on our groundside area to keep surfaces in safe usable conditions;
  • Service and maintain all equipment including running maintenance, minor repairs, and cleaning;
  • Install, maintain and remove snow fencing;
  • Coordinate pavement and signage repair;
  • Maintain the twenty-four hour operation;
  • Other duties related to groundside maintenance including landscaping until snowfall.
Selection Criteria includes:
  • Must provide driver's abstract and have a valid Class 3 driver's license with Air Brake endorsement (Class 1 driver's license desirable);
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a restricted radio/telephone license;
  • Ability to acquire and maintain Airport Vehicle Operator Permit "D/A" (AVOP);
  • Ability to acquire and maintain an Airport Restricted Area Identification Card
  • Minimum of 2 winters experience in the operation of heavy and/or medium equipment;
  • Experience/knowledge of airport operations considered an asset;
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the operation of heavy and/or medium equipment;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the operation and repair of winter and/or summer maintenance equipment (experience with airport specific equipment considered an asset);
  • Ability to assess and evaluate the operational condition of equipment;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety practices and procedures;
  • Physically able to perform manual labour as required (lifting/pushing weight up to 50lbs, walking and shoveling snow and/or gravel as required);
  • Effective oral and written communication skills;
  • Effective interpersonal skills;
  • Proven attendance and reliability;
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask;
  • Ability to prepare basic reports and use MS Office Suite;
  • Ability to work shift work in a 24/7 environment;
  • Arborist Certification an asset;
  • Pesticide Applicators Certificate an asset;
  • Landscaping background an asset; and
  • Minimum of Grade 12 education or equivalent.
