About Our Opportunity



The Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture is looking for a highly motivated and dynamic person to add to its Marketing team.
Reporting to the Manager, Market Development, the successful candidate is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring marketing strategies to support Nova Scotia?s seafood industry in domestic and international markets. The Seafood Marketing Officer works strategically to promote and grow the Nova Scotian seafood economy.

Primary Accountabilities



As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for:
  • Lead the planning, development, and implementation of targeted domestic market development initiatives/opportunities to raise awareness and consumption of locally produced seafood products in cooperation with key government partners and industry.
  • Assist in the development, planning and delivery of export-driven marketing development campaigns, programs, and events in cooperation with key department contacts, government partners, and industry.
  • Research, write, and edit briefing material, project proposals, and marketing collateral for promotional purposes.
  • Develop and maintain networks with domestic and international government and industry partners.
  • Manage the nsseafood.com website including content, directory updates and work to promote the brand awareness of Nova Scotia Seafood brand.
  • Build and execute digital media strategy to support Nova Scotia seafood exporters through competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging, and audience identification.
    • Generate, edit, publish, and share daily content (original text, images, video or HTML) that builds meaningful connections and builds brand awareness, generates website traffic and influences national and international export audiences to buy Nova Scotia products.
    • Create editorial calendars and syndication schedules.
    • Monitor, capture, and analyze marketing data/metrics and develop related reports. Incorporate insights and best practices into future work.


Qualifications and Experience



  • Bachelor?s degree with a specialization in marketing, trade, business administration or other relevant discipline and 5 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years proven work experience in digital marketing and brand strategy. Must have market development and/or trade experience working in international markets. Exceptional writing, editing and strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience organizing and delivering consumer education/awareness, culinary, retail, food service and e-commerce food promotion events.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment and maintain excellent working relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and marketing strategy.
  • Adequate understanding of graphic design principles, website content management systems, and social media scheduling software.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience working in Nova Scotia?s seafood industry.
  • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to speak and write in multiple languages is considered an asset.

Additional Information



Based in Halifax, the Seafood Marketing Officer will work within a small, dedicated team to develop and support the implementation of seafood marketing and promotional activities.
This position may require travel within the province, Canada, and international markets. A valid driver?s license, and passport is required.
Pay Grade: PR 13 Salary Range: $2,543.38 - $3,091.70 Bi-Weekly
