Science Outreach Coordinator, College of Arts and SciencePrimary Purpose: To coordinate the Science Ambassador Program, assist the Manager of Science Outreach in coordinating the Kamsk\xc3\xa9now program, as well as provide support for other science outreach initiatives offered through the Science Outreach office in the College of Arts & Science.Nature of Work: Reporting to the Director of Science Outreach, the Science Outreach Coordinator will serve as a leader and instructor on the Science Outreach Team, to promote the sciences to the broader community, with an aim to broaden the pool of future University of Saskatchewan students and serve the community in increasing science literacy. The Science Outreach Coordinator will work with the Director of Science Outreach to develop, coordinate, and deliver the Science Ambassador and Kamsk\xc3\xa9now programs. The complexity of the work will vary greatly, ranging from daily tasks to developing and implementing plans. The successful candidate must be resourceful, innovative, and able to facilitate partnerships with educational, governmental, industry and community members. Peak periods are September to June. Traveling is required.Typical Duties or Accountabilities:\xf4\x80\x81\xb8 Coordinating the Science Ambassador Program, which will include:

  • Hiring student Science Ambassadors.
  • Arranging Science Ambassador professional development opportunities.
  • Establishing relationships with host community partners through effective communication including phone, email, pre-placement teacher surveys, and letters to governing councils.
  • Providing oversight, resources, and direction to Science Ambassadors as they plan engaging and culturally-relevant activities to connect with identified STEM learning needs in participating schools on a community-by-community basis.
  • Logistical arrangements related to Science Ambassador travel, purchase and shipment of science materials, and securing community-based housing.
  • Ongoing developmental program assessment including: dissemination and analysis of qualitative surveys for school staff, students and ambassadors; post-placement debriefing with school administrators and ambassadors; and accessing opportunities for objective external review.
  • Securing ongoing program sponsorship, maintaining positive donor relations, and working with other College and University science outreach programs (e.g. VIDO).
  • Creating and working within an annual program budget.
  • Promoting the Science Ambassador Program to campus and off-campus community by: creating and disseminating an informative annual program report and brochure; maintaining an up-to-date program website; and coordinating an annual Science Ambassador Celebration event.
\xf4\x80\x81\xb8 Along with the Director of Science Outreach, coordinating the Kamsk\xc3\xa9now program\xf4\x80\x81\xb8 Sustaining and enhancing General Science Outreach programming\xf4\x80\x81\xb8 Providing leadership and supervision of the Science Outreach Team\xf4\x80\x81\xb8 Ensuring effective delivery and sustainability of all outreach activities\xf4\x80\x81\xb8 Designing and developing engaging, culturally-responsive, hands-on science programming\xf4\x80\x81\xb8 Co-instructing with Science Outreach Instructors\xf4\x80\x81\xb8 Promoting U of S science students, faculty and research activities to the general publicEducation: Minimum of a Bachelor\'s Degree in a related discipline (science or science education), Graduate Degree is preferred. Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.Experience: Candidate must have a minimum of one to three years of directly relevant experience. Evidence of successfully forming partnerships between diverse organizations is required. Experience working with educational programming and grade school groups, and familiarity with potential local and national funding sources is required. Experience in collaborating with diverse groups of organizations, people and with Indigenous communities is required. Fluency with an Indigenous language(s) would be an asset. Familiarity with university administrative structures would be an asset.Skills:
