The Science Educator supports the Saskatchewan Science Centre\xe2\x80\x99s mission of igniting scientific curiosity in Saskatchewan residents through the delivery of interactive, dynamic and engaging opportunities. The Science Educator is directly responsible for the delivery of programs conducted throughout Saskatchewan including school workshops, stage shows, special events, exhibit floor interpretation, and summer programming. Working alongside the Director of Programming, the Science Educator will work as both a lead and supporting member of all educational programs the Saskatchewan Science Centre will offer. This role will involve program delivery, development, as well as reporting and administrative duties. Responsibilities: Delivery of Saskatchewan Science Centre programming including:
  • School Workshops \xe2\x80\x93 The Saskatchewan Science Centre offers K-12 education programs to schools across Saskatchewan. The Science Educator would be responsible for delivering these workshops.
  • Community and Special Events \xe2\x80\x93 Science Educators will be responsible for leading and developing programs for community partners and at special events hosted at the Saskatchewan Science Centre.
  • Virtual Programming_ \xe2\x80\x93 _The Saskatchewan Science Centre delivers Virtual experiences to schools and groups who may not have access to visiting the Science Centre. The Science Educator is responsible for the delivery and improvement of these experiences.
  • Demonstrations and Interpretation \xe2\x80\x93 Programming staff at the Saskatchewan Science Centre are all responsible for the delivery of exceptional visitor experiences which include stage shows, demonstrations, interpretation of exhibits and providing quality science education opportunities.
  • Summer Programs \xe2\x80\x93 The Saskatchewan Science Centre provides educational programming to communities across Saskatchewan during summer. The Science Educator helps develop and deliver these programs at the Saskatchewan Science Centre and in rural locations throughout the province.
Staff supervision and training \xe2\x80\x93 Science Educators are leaders to both summer students as well as Science Explorers wherever programming is being delivered. This includes providing training for programs, classroom management, and the delivery of an exceptional visitor experience. The Science Educator acts as an ambassador for the SSC in all experiences they are a part of. Science communication - The Science Educator promotes the exploration of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) through exciting and engaging programming. This involves presenting and facilitating learning for children with varying learning needs. A strong stage presence and/or the ability to elevate lessons is an asset. Program Administration - The Science Educator will assist in the organization of various programs and events. This includes organization of travel, making related bookings and following policies related to purchasing and expenses. They are responsible for ensuring proper reporting is followed. Program development and improvement - The Science Educator contributes to the ongoing development and improvement of programming. This includes researching new areas of development, testing new programs with visitor audiences and evaluating a program\xe2\x80\x99s relevance. Other duties \xe2\x80\x93 The Science Educator may be asked to carry out other tasks as assigned within the provision of programming. Qualifications:
  • Some post-secondary education. Applicants with a background in science, engineering, education or interpretation are ideal, but not required.
  • Experience teaching or instructing a variety of age levels. Classroom/group management skills are required.
  • Experience in program delivery and development
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to take initiative.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a constantly evolving environment.
  • Strong presentation skills with an understanding of pacing, instructional scaffolding and energy
  • Valid Class 5 drivers license
  • Criminal Record Check w/ Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Be able to work on your feet for extended times.
Working Conditions
  • This is a Full-time position and falls under the salary grid 2.5.
  • This position may require travel. Some weekend and evening availability will be required.
  • The Saskatchewan Science Centre will provide meal per diems, a vehicle, and will also cover accommodations when travelling.
