Job Summary The Workforce Planning Group at NAV CANADA expertly guides and supports the organization in the creation and execution of comprehensive workforce plans through analytical insight, business knowledge and innovation. Our goal is to enable the alignment of the workforce with the organizationaEUR(TM)s strategic objectives and long-term vision. The group is divided into many interconnecting portfolios that collaborate on a regular basis: planning and analytics, resourcing, and scheduling.

The group is expanding, and a Scheduling Center of Excellence (SCoE) is being created which will provide the organization with thought-leadership, direction, learning and oversight on all scheduling matters so that there is a consistent drive towards improvement. The SCoE will foster documenting and sharing of standardized processes, system improvements, scheduling analysis advancements and development of best practices, including those for building schedules that are conducive to fatigue management.

Under the direction of the Manager, Scheduling Systems and Transformation, the Scheduling Systems and Processes Specialist is a subject matter expert, member of the Scheduling Center of Excellence (SCoE) that provides support, learning, research, analysis and oversight regarding all scheduling matters (including schedule and cycle optimization and best practices for scheduling for fatigue) and scheduling related tools, so that there is a consistent drive towards standardization and improvement.



There are two permanent vacancies (one Bilingual preferred and one English).

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide expert advice, coordinate, and contribute, in collaboration with Business Partners, to the identification of national scheduling system and process requirements and gap analysis. Recommend enhancements and solutions, and proactively plan to maintain, develop, and document new effective employee scheduling system functionality, best practices and processes.
  • Provide expert system and process support, advice, guidance and leadership regarding complex scheduling issues to shift scheduling specialists, scheduling supervisors and Operations managers, by sharing their in-depth knowledge of the system and processes, conducting research, consulting with management and conducting follow-ups.
  • Provide scheduling subject-matter expertise, coordination efforts, leadership and training in the development and execution of national transformative initiatives that directly impact ATS operational employeesaEUR(TM) schedules, including improving scheduling analytics and best practices for building schedules that are conducive for fatigue management.
  • Provide Project management coordination and support for several scheduling related initiatives, to ensure initiatives and project are meeting designated milestones and timelines.
  • Coordinate with MSOs, Unit Managers and scheduling supervisors to run simulations and offer recommendations for schedule options, work patterns, cycle optimizations and alternate schedule arrangements (Appendix D and Appendix G types) to ensure all collective agreements are adhered to and are optimized in the most efficient way possible and represent an improvement towards being conducive to fatigue management.
  • Act as subject matter expert in the development of substantial training material, develop more minor training material and provide training to new and existing users on scheduling systems to remote employees and managers.
Job Requirements

Education:
  • Post-secondary education or comparable work experience.
Experience:
  • 3 or more years of experience in scheduling
  • Experience providing enhanced support for a system such as a scheduling platform or ERP platform
Knowledge:
  • Extensive knowledge of scheduling best practices, processes and principles.
  • Knowledge and experience working with collective agreements and legislation in alignment with scheduling practices as well as the ability to review and interpret related information
  • Extensive knowledge (SME level knowledge in some cases) of specialized workforce planning software: ESS, Workday, etc).
  • Great knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.)
  • Good understanding of formal Project Management methodologies, change and communication principles.
