Who you are

Minimum Requirements

• PhD in science or health-related discipline an asset
• Minimum 3 years of recent related clinical research experience.

Abilities and Knowledge Required

• Extensive leadership skills, with strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
• Strong management skills, including problem solving abilities, critical thinking, excellent judgment and decision-making sills.
• Strong organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, establish project timelines and track multiple deliverables.
• Ability to supervise and train staff, including prioritizing and scheduling work assignments.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate and manage clinical trials protocol.
• Knowledge of Health Canada and FDA regulations, and other legislation/standards pertaining to clinical trials.
• Ability to design and implement systems necessary in the collection, maintenance and analysis of data.
• Facilitation and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and clinical trials software.
• Good work record and ability to attend work on a regular basis.
• Written and spoken competence in English is required at an advanced level.

What you will do

Research Administration and Support

• This position will manage the Health Research activities in Nephrology at the Saint John Regional Hospital and will serve as the advisor and liaison to all relevant committees, departments and groups affected by or collaborating with Nephrology research.
• Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and guidelines for Nephrology research, taking into consideration desirable benchmarking and metrics.
• Plays a key role in building research capacity through the effective implementation of the departments strategic plans for research, education and quality.
• Supports and promotes the highest quality of scientific and scholarly activity by physicians and staff within the department.
• Promotes an understanding of research design, techniques, statistical methods, and research writing skills through education, training and mentorship.
• Develops means of assessing the institutional impact and/or effects on patient outcomes of supported Nephrology research projects and programs.
• Ensures all departmental research projects are in compliance with Tri-Council Policy Statement guidelines on Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans and Good Clinical Practices.
• Works closely with the research clinicians and the department of Research Services to ensure sound budgetary and financial management of externally funded projects.
• Supports continued growth of research staff and clinicians and identifies opportunities for professional development.
• Works with departmental clinicians in the development, implementation and oversight of all research protocols, data management and study management plans
• Reviews study methodology and determines potential impact of proposed research projects on Horizon departments, resources, and services
• Collaborates with research clinicians to prepare written abstracts, manuscripts, posters, and presentations of research study outcomes.
• Works with administrative leadership, physicians and other clinical personnel to develop, implement and oversee the clinical research programs within the department
