Position Summary

The Safety Specialist will provide support and expertise to the operations site and project team in complying with local regulatory and PR Operating requirements for Machine Safety. The position will work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, controls and system engineers, production and maintenance personnel and risk team to ensure robust processes in place from design phase to final machine operation. This position will support the development of a robust change management process in collaboration with site managers. The position will support the development and implementation of the Pernod Ricard H&S strategic priorities including safety culture, safety leadership and safety performance. This position will also support the development and execution of safety training programs for the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be key member of the Project team for the purpose of conducting preliminary risk assessment and developing scope of work, participating in site acceptance tests and commissioning.
  • Work in collaboration with key stakeholders to catalogue and assess risks for all existing machinery following the guidance in the PR Machine Safety Operating guideline.
  • Ensure clear H&S requirements are in place for new machinery starting at the design and procurement phases of the project.
  • Assist and provide guidance in conducting risk assessments/FMEA's where needed.
  • Conduct, facilitate or advise as necessary in Machinery and Equipment Design Reviews.
  • Provide guidance and recognized best practices on machinery safety to guarantee a high level of protection to workers at the design phase.
  • Lead the development of the change management process working in partnership with key internal stakeholders.
  • Provide support in the identification of relevant regulatory standards and participate in the development of a strategy for machinery compliance.
  • Provide machine safety expertise/input in all stages of the design process such as writing requirements, participating in design reviews, performing validation tests, and supporting engineers/project managers during detailed design.
  • Partners with site leadership to improve safety programs by evaluating existing programs, identifying areas of concern, and implementing solutions.
  • Coordinate with appropriate regulatory agencies to obtain certifications required for deployment as required.
  • Coordinate site inspections with local regulatory bodies on a per-installation basis as required.
  • Support the development of information for use including labels, manuals, and training.
Education

Required
  • 3+ years of technical experience in regulatory compliance or machine safety.
  • Experience leading and performing risk assessments then driving open actions to ensure appropriate mitigation and regulatory compliance.
  • Working knowledge of international compliance standards (eg. CSA, UL, NFPA, OSHA, CE, Can MOL, Ontario Pre-start Health and Safety Reviews) and their application.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to technically influence people at all levels of an organization and to drive teams to consensus.
Preferred
  • Preferred Degree in Electrical or Mechanical.
  • Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE) or equivalent is an asset.
  • Certified Machinery Safety Expert (CMSE) or equivalent is an asset.
  • Experience in automation, logistics, or industrial applications is an asset.
