We are looking for a Health and Safety Specialist to join our growing team here at Stampede North, Cambridge facility.
  • 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday.
Core Responsibilities
  • Monitor and assess activities to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation: Occupational Health & Safety, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, etc.
  • Proactively manage all WSIB claims with a focus on Early and Safe Return to Work. In addition to completing WSIB forms, communicating with the injured worker, WSIB and health practitioners where applicable, creating RTW plans, dealing with any barriers promptly and effectively.
  • Personally, respond to all serious accidents to ensure that proper investigation and follow up is completed. Work with Supervisors/Managers to ensure incident reports and investigations are completed in a timely manner and that appropriate record keeping standards are met.
  • Become actively involved in hazard analysis and provides solutions to alleviate hazards or potential hazards with regards to H&S related situations
  • Design and deliver training programs for workers, management, and Safety Committee members to comply with legislative requirements and improve Health, Safety, Emergency Response and Security.
  • Enhance core competencies by coaching, mentoring, and delivering targeted training to managers, team leaders, process owners, and employees.
  • Build and maintain relationships with managers and supervisors in order to educate them on Stampede North's Safety goals and processes to drive a culture of continuous improvement and build inspiring leaders
  • Coordinate safety training as required in legislative areas such as GHS, Lock Out / Tag Out, Forklift, First Aid, CPR, Fire Extinguisher, and any other required training deemed necessary as well as maintain accurate records of training for such programs in conjunction with HR personnel.
  • Maintain Online Health and Safety Training Portal through Alchemy and ensure required employee trainings are up-to-date.
  • Review and monitor on-site Contractor OHS programs and compliance with applicable regulations. Responsible to maintain our online Contractor Compliance program.
  • Assist in the reduction of Health and Safety risks and hazards.
  • Lead and facilitate monthly JHSC meetings.
  • Ensure Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews (PSRs) are properly completed including written reports on the construction, addition or installation of new equipment, structures, protective elements or processes, or modifications to an existing apparatus, structures, protective elements or processes; such reports are to detail the measures (steps, actions or engineering controls) necessary to bring the construction, addition, installation or modification into compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Work in tandem with Production Supervisors/Managers to develop and maintain Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Safe Work Procedures (SWP) identifying the basic job steps and tasks and their associated hazards and risks and develops safe operating procedures and hazard controls.
  • Maintain OHS metrics and documentation with the ability to present this information to applicable parties
  • Act as a liaison between the company and external regulatory, advisory, certification and registration bodies.
  • Follows GMP and regulatory requirements, and ensures quality standards are met.
  • Observes and supports all safety guidelines and regulations
  • Make recommendations to Senior Leadership to continuously improve the Health and Safety Standards and efficiency at the Stampede North facility.
  • Ensure legal standards for record keeping and documentation are met.
  • Responding to emergencies after hours
  • Perform additional responsibility and duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
  • CRSP Designation or equivalent is an asset
  • Minimum of 3 years Environmental and Health & Safety related experience within an Manufacturing Environment.
  • Strong WSIB Claims Management experience.
  • Health and Safety within a Food Manufacturing Environment considered a strong asset
  • Strong ability to interpret, communicate, and train on Health and Safety legislation and act as an approachable first point of contact to employee questions and concerns related to Health and Safety
  • Previous experience with working in a unionized work environment is considered to be a strong asset
  • Forklift Experience considered a strong asset
  • Continuous improvement experience considered a strong asset
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization to promote Environmental Health & Safety initiatives, including the ability to guide and influence
  • Knowledgeable on current Provincial and Federal Environmental Health & Safety legislation.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Legislation is considered an asset.
  • Proficient in MS 365 including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Must be extremely organized and a self-starter; able to work with limited supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal and trouble-shooting skills.
  • Must excel at coping with conflicting priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and a professional and pleasant attitude
